Synopsis

A team of scientists and military personnel is dispatched to the distant Pegasus galaxy to explore the remnants of the Lost City of the Ancients, also known as Atlantis in this STARGATE SG-1 spin-off series. The Ancients were an advanced human race that initially created the Stargate network, and diplomat Dr. Elizabeth Weir (Torri Higginson) and pilot Major John Sheppherd (Joe Flanigan) head the international squad that is sent to investigate. The team arrives at Atlantis to find the city abandoned and their ship permanently stranded, unless they can find a power source to get themselves home to earth. They make contact with a brave but primitive native civilisation as well as with the evil Wraith, a species that feeds on fear and, it quickly becomes clear, poses a threat to human life everywhere. Sheppard's brash, instinctive nature contrasts with the calm thoughtfulness of Dr. Weir, and their team is rounded out by Sheppard's second-in-command Lt. Aidan Ford, witty Scottish doctor Carson Beckett, Pegasus native leader Teyla Emmagen, and inimitable scientist Rodney McKay. Episodes include: 'Condemned', 'Trinity', 'Instinct' and 'Conversion'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Atlantis Continues To Shine, 14 Jan 2006
By Mr. M. D. J. Allen "mike_allen_uk" (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This DVD will contain episodes 5 to 8, with only three of them really grabbing my attention.

The first episode "Condemned" the Atlantis team finds a culture that lives in relative safety from the Wraith and the team later on find themselves strandard on a penal colony after being shot down by the inmates. The episode deals with some moral dilemma issues for Sheppard in particular, the SFX are again pretty good.

"Trinity" is an ok episode, it mainly follows Dr.McKay and his team of scientists trying to get an Ancient Weapons Platform working. The episode focuses on McKay and how arrogant he is and also how smart he thinks he is, which backfires later on.
The sub-plot of Teyla and Ronan adds nothing to the plot line, but allows the two characters to develop more.

"Instinct" is one of my favourite episodes this season. In this episode the team travel to a world that is under attack by a creature which sounds like a Wraith. However the team find Ella, a young female Wraith bought up by a human. He claims Ella is not like the other Wraith, but we soon learn that she is not all that she seems.

"Conversion" follows on from "Instinct". Sheppard starts to change into the iratus bug and the team have to race against the clock to save him. Any suspense in this episode is blown out of the window straight away, as it's obvious that Sheppard will recover b4 the episode ends.

Hopefully all these episodes will have audio commentaries, and also a few special features on the making on these episodes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better and Better, 10 May 2006
By Paul Smerdon "Goose83" (Basingstoke) - See all my reviews

What can i say they have pulled of a miracle i thought Stargate SG1 would go off the map after Richard Dean Anderson left. Boy was i wrong it gets better and better each time and am just as hooked as when it first began.

With new charactors Cameron Mitchell (Ben Browder) who is awesome in the new role as leader and also Vala Mal Doran (Claudia Black)as the lead female for some of season nine while (Amanda Tapping was off having a baby, made great additions. Claudia Black's charactor is to become a regular in season 10

Also the new big bad the Ori who believe everyone should bowl down and worship if not they will kill and punish you, also trouble within the free Jaffa nation trying to get used to things without the Goa'uld even if some are still around such as Baal.

New stories, new planets, new friends and foes it's all good i recommend this dvd to anyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars The wraith may suck, but this show doesn't!, 11 Jul 2009

Four more corking episodes of sci-fi entertainment. I won't go into plot lines for these four episodes. But they are all good ones. rodney and sheppards characters are built upon, and at least two of these storys have links to future plot lines in season three. You get more great ancient technology, the cuddly funsters the Wraith. Genetic experiments etc. The characters have grown and even Ronan is fitting in to place. At times this almost out shines sg1. Well worth your pennys.
