Product Description

Description

The electronica artist Caroline's debut album walks the line between ambient music and pop balladry, with its most successful moments coming when she achieves a smooth blend of the two genres, notably on the yearning "All I Need", whose enchanting melody is subtly buoyed by its exotic tabla accompaniment. "Everylittlething" is a charming electropop invitation, complete with chiming electric piano and vintage-sounding synth sounds, while the almost unnaturally pretty "Where'sMy Love", the song that first caught her record label's attention, is likely still number one in some alternate universe's pop chart.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Well Kept Secret!, 12 May 2007
By I. Lehnert (Derby/Blackburn, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This CD is another result of the power of whatever's playing in record shops when I walk in has on me. I heard barely two minutes of this album before asking what it was and then buying it! Anyway, Caroline is a Tokyo born singer/songwriter who'll instantly remind you of a slightly poppier and more focussed Bjork, and more modernly will remind you of Imogen Heap. 'Murmurs' is a really pretty 9-track ambient/electronica album set off by Caroline's fragile, restrained yet sriking vocals.

'Murmurs' might be quite romantically reflective, but thankfully has more than enough soul to avoid chill-out/coffee table status. I've still got quite a soft-spot for well written and haunting songs by female singer/songwriters so I'm a little biased, but even though it's a short album there's plenty of talent and good songwriting here to keep you coming back for more, not least the emotional peaks she so often reaches like on 'I'll Leave My Heart Behind'. Highly recommended stuff.
