Product Description
Amazon.co.uk Review

In a nutshell:
Nintendo’s cameo filled beat ‘em-up returns with an even stranger mix of characters and at least one very special guest. It’s also going to be online for the first time so you can smack Pikachu over the head with a baseball bat from around the world.

The lowdown:
Although it’s not due to be released until next year Nintendo has already revealed that the new Smash Bros. will include a number of new playable characters such as Meta Knight from the Kirby games, Pit from Kid Icarus, Zero Suit Samus (i.e. Samus without her armour) from Metroid: Zero Mission, Wario and, most unexpectedly, Solid Snake from Metal Gear. The Nintendogs also make an appearance, although only as an item for obscuring the screen, and each character now seems to have some gigantic new special attacks that take up the whole screen.. Not only will the game have an online mode but it is the only major Nintendo title to use the “shell” controller by default rather than the Wii remote.

Most exciting moment:
The idea of Kirby and Solid Snake facing off is almost too bizarre to contemplate but the strangest moment in the trailer comes with Wario’s new bottom burp attack.

Since you ask:
Nintendo has admitted that it is in talks with other third party publishers, about the possibility of including other non-Nintendo characters in the game beyond just Solid Snake, with Sonic the Hedgehog touted as the next most likely to make an appearance.

The bottom line:
Video game’s finest are assembled for the most star studded fighting game ever.
HARRISON DENT

5.0 out of 5 stars Best multiplayer console game you are likely to ever play, 14 April 2008
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I recently bought this game from the USA and have been playing it (using freeloader) pretty much every time I meet up with my mates and I don't just mean for a few matches we play it alot...

First I'd like to say that there are 35 playable characters in total for this game.
But if you count the fact that some characters can completely change into others that makes about 38 characters (Pokemon Trainer, Sheik/Zelda).

First of all it seems Nintendo have attempted to balance certain characters, Marth included. This is probably good news for alot of players but I never really had a problem with Marth in SSB Melee.

But okay down to the game...
The gameplay is great, you can play for hours with your friends and the thought of stopping doesn't really cross your mind at all.

There are tons of new items (which I have mainly turned off due to the luck factor), tons of new stages and the ability to create custom stages just adds to the fun.
I don't really enjoy single player too much as the fun is mainly when you and your friends get competitive, you can't exactly enjoy taunting a computer lol

The subspace emissary is quite boring it would seem but I didn't buy Brawl to play that, I bought it so I could have the best multiplayer console experience.
And I'm glad to say I got it :D

One area that I think they could have improved on would be the ability to record games.
It lets you record them but only if the match is around 3 minutes or under I think.
Many times me and my friends have said 'We have got to have a replay of that' only to find the match was too long.
Sad faces all around :(

The graphics are decent, they look slightly worse when on a bigger TV but it's to be expected.
But really if you were a fan of Melee you wont be disappointed with the improved graphics.

The menu layout is clean and easy to navigate.

The sound is great, I can't find a single fault in the sound atm.
Everything down to Sonic's retro jump sound is there (seriously it sounds like you're playing the master system when sonic is on screen)

Online is an area I feel they have really slipped up on though.
There are really no options.
I thought there would at least be the ability for stock matches.. but no.
You are forced to play a 4 player 2 minute timed match.

And there isn't too much you can do in 2 minutes unless you've picked a heavy character.
I myself like to pick weaker characters, who require time to take kills but when online you really aren't given the time to show your skills.

All in all I would say if you enjoy playing competitively with your friends this is definitely the game for you.
It's a must-have Wii title in terms of its huge multiplayer prowess.

And I can definitely say I'm very happy I bought this game from overseas.
Don't think I could have waited much longer for it to be released here.

Oh yeah before I forget, there are extra options like customising controls for certain players only.
Like for myself I've turned off the option to jump with the directional stick.

Anyway hope this wasn't too boring.

Graphics: 8.5
Sound: 10
Fun: 10

5.0 out of 5 stars Brawl demo , 12 Oct 2007
By Mr. D. S. Brewer (Lincoln, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Hello, yesterday i actually managed to play a demo of brawl at a gaming event although it was limited to certain characters and stages, and you had to use either the classic controller or the wii-remote sideways, however you will be able to attach a nunchuk or use a gamecube controller for the real thing as well.

I really enjoyed what i played, you got to play for 2 minutes and then line for an hour, and i lined up twice overall because i was impressed, i went with my friend, because Zelda wasn't playable i decided to use Ike when playing and my friend used sonic out of excitement, who has been put into brawl, we played on pokemon stadium, and i was very impressed with what i experienced, the graphics are very sharp, the best ive seen on a wii console so far, the new items are good and impressive, i managed to get Lyn out of an assist triphy which allows several nintendo characters to help you, she helped me get one KO.
There's also the new super smash attack, one did actually appear in our fight and instead of just grabbing it you have to beat it a bit first, as i discovered whilst desperate to see Ike's final smash, however sonic managed to grab it first, and i was shocked to find out you have to push a button to activate it which i liked, he then turned into super sonic, who can fly around and basically just hitting you means you'll fly far and take alot of damage. for that we used the classic controller.

The second time we had a fight we played on a yoshi's island level, i used yoshi, and my friend used Diddy Kong. we used the wii remote sideways this time, and i personally think i will stick to the gamecube controller. Again the fight lasted two minutes, this time i managed to get hold of a smash ball and basically grew wings and shot some fireballs, diddy kong seemed interesting as an opponent and slightly like a kamikaze fighter as he's very fast, moves in kart wheels, and can hurt himself by mistake with peanut guns, although he can heal himself with these after they explode, but it does more damage than it recovers.

From what i've seen so far i'm impressed and i will be buying the game. gameplay is very smooth, the graphics brilliant, smash moves are slightly different for those who care, you jsut tilt the control stick a bit, also combos are slightly different as you can just hold the button down instead of button bash. throws do similar damage, and the knock back is about the same, although if you throw vertically they seem to go abit higher but i don't know if that was just which character i was using as Ike is new, also he is basically just Marth and Roy combined into one from Melee. although his recovery has improved and he's not as heavy as roy, his weight is the same as Marth's. another thing i noticed is Yoshi's recovery is alot better than it was, he now has the best recovery out of the characters i've seen although in fairness i didn't get to see sonics properly as my friend wasn't forced to do an up special in our first game, yoshi's up special now boosts him up through the air as well now, so i can see him being alot more powerful.
Gameplay: 5/5 awesome smash bros as expected
Graphics: 5/5 best i've seen on a Wii game
Controls: 3/5 I'm sticking to the GC controller, although the classic controller wasn't particularly unpleasant, i haven't tried the Nunchuk with the remote, so i can't comment alot
Sound: 4/5 difficult to judge when theres screaming people stood behind you, but what i heard was good, only giving it 4, because i dont know if its earnt 5, but its at least 4.
Camera: 5/5 camera follows the characters better, its a big improvement, noticably different when your actually playing the levels
