Product Description

Manufacturer's Description
Set in an expansive fantasy universe and beautifully presented in a rich, vibrant visual style, the world of Lunar has seen a number of versions across several formats, spanning 14 years and three generations of hardware. Set a thousand years before previous storylines, Lunar Genesis tells the tale of a band of young adventurers performing courier jobs who stumble into a battle between the forces of good and evil. This battle threatens to consume the entire land and sets the stage for over 70 hours of handheld RPG adventuring.

With all of the standard features associated with a traditional Japanese RPG, Lunar Genesis is adapted perfectly to take advantage of the benefits afforded by the Nintendo DS hardware. All aspects of player interaction, from movement around the game environments to map and menu navigation can be controlled via the touch-screen. Both displays are employed throughout the game to make sure the player has access to all the information they need. The dual screens are also fundamental to the battle system, with airborne enemies occupying the upper screen and traditional ground-based troops on the bottom. Even the microphone is used, as blowing on it during a fight acts as a 'panic button'.

Perhaps the most exciting feature for series fans and newcomers alike is the inclusion of the Coliseum mode, a wireless multiplayer battle where scratch cards earned during the single-player quest can be used to take on other players. The participants literally scratch off squares on the touch-screen, the outcome of which dictates the flow of combat. The winner gets to keep the loser's card for use in further Coliseum battles or to aid them in their single-player questing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Your better off saving your money., 17 April 2006

Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This is the ds' first real rpg and as a fan of the genre i had to have it. Unfortunately its a piece of tripe. The dialogue is poor and the story is the usual fare. You play Jian who as it happens is the only one who can unite the beastmen and humans and save the world etc. The major problem with this game is the lack of control in combat.Because you can't choose the monster your attacking the strategy element has all but been removed. There is even a atomatic mode so if you want you can just let the ds do the work for you. There are two types of spells black and white. White is support so its heal and protect and the like whereas black is attack. Unfortunately you can only equip one black magic spell at a time at the cost of an accessory. Also your equipment breaks at regular intervals, making all the time you spent saving up useless. In combat you can choose between collecting items and cards for jobs to make money or clearing the area for experience. The cards are used as spells and for the multi-player mode. The only alright thing about this game are some of the pictures which are well drawn. This game is incrediably repetitive and not worth the time or effort so its best avoided.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Worst RPG on DS (TM), 18 April 2006
By Adam Parr "Parr" (England (Midlands)) - See all my reviews

Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
I'll be completely honest with you here....this game really really is crap.
Being the 'First RPG on DS' isn't a proud title for any owners of this game, It has to be one of the worst game designs EVER!
Now let's see....in an RPG you would expect to be able to explore....NO! Not in this one! For example when you're in a town you have a few different options such as pub, hotel, fountain ect but that's it....you go there look around one small room (which is worthless) and then click another.
Now RPGs are like with their battle systems, if you ever base an RPG on this game's system the whole gaming economy would just die. I mean seriously why have a battle if you're just going to press 'Auto' and let the battle do it's self, no option no nothing just watch....and the manual isn't really any different you don't even pick which monster to attack!
Running.....You're HP is lowered when you run around this vast map, so trips to other towns... (If you can call them towns) take a good 10 minutes.

I would seriously recommend you DON'T buy this game you will be very very disappointed. Wait until a better RPG comes such as LOSTMAGIC.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst RPG Ever!!!!, 16 Jun 2006
By C. Spencer (Wisbech, Cambs, UK) - See all my reviews

Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This has to be the WORST RPG I have ever played. If you are thinking of buying it DON'T, it is a waste of money.
In most RPGs one of the main points is exploring everything. In this game you can't even explore the towns as much as you would like. The town appears on the touch screen like a map with the names of various shops and houses and you click on where you want to go. Most of the time you only have one measley room to look around. boring!
Another thing is the battle system (if you can call it that). You can't even choose which monster to attack and 9 times out of 10 the weakest enemies are targeted first leaving the stonger ones which means you're HP runs down very quickly.
One of the few good points about this game is that you work for a delivery service. This could have been done better though as to get most of the items required for the jobs you have to fight monsters. This reveals a major flaw in the battle system. You either fight for items or the more traditional experience. You can't get any money from battles! This means you will spend hours just walking around (The game punishes you for running!) finding the necessary items to raise enough money to buy items and weapons to keep yourself alive.
I don't know about 'First RPG on the DS' I think I'll wait for the First GOOD RPG on the RPG!!
