I own all the Buddha Bar CD's and, in my opinion, this is the best. As is usually the case with most compilations, the earlier releases are often the better and the formula and music genre can become tired. This was actually hapenning with the Buddha Bar series with volume 6, in particular, being very flat.

However, volume 8 sees a fantastic return to form. This is even better than volume's 1 and 2. Where Sam Popat particularly excels is in his technical skills. David Visan, Claude Challe and Ravin were more selectors of great music than they were good technically. However, Buddha Bar volume 8 combines exceptional music with great programming/sequencing.

This CD recaptures all the original elements of Tibetan/Asian influences with downtempo trip-hop and chill out excellently. It is the best in the series so far and sounds highly fresh/original.

I've been an avid fan of the Buddha Bar series from the time a friend bought me Buddha Bar 1 as a gift. I've bought every single album since then. While some of the prior albums have varied in quality, be assured that Buddha Bar 8 firmly puts the pioneers of ethnic lounge/ambient music back on the top spot. I was wary when I saw that this collection was put together by a new DJ, but I needn't have worried. I can't recommend this album highly enough. Assembled by Sam Popat, resident DJ from Buddha Bar New York, I get the same tingle down my spine that I remember having when I first heard Buddha Bar 1. As usual, CD1 is more laid back while CD2 is more upbeat. However, unlike some earlier albums in the series CD2 doesn' overstep the mark to become too 'clubby'.
To summarise, Buddha Bar 8 doesn't disappoint fans of the series. It's a perfect balance, and as good as the best in the Buddha Bar collection. Popat is to be congratulated.

I have all Buddha Bar CD's and have to say that for me anyway, this latest one is the best! I haven't stopped playing it since it arrived.
