2.0 out of 5 stars Seemed good at first, 5 Aug 2008
After reading reviews about how difficult this was to set up I was a little nervous about buying it. However it only took me around an hour to set up and both my WII and PSP were connecting no problem.

However after a couple of days I suddenly had no signal for no apparent reason. I had been using it pretty much all morning then when I returned after an hour it wasn't working. I had not installed anything new or moved the dongle to another location. I tried to repair but it just says there is no error detected. It is connected but there is no signal.

After looking at other reviews it appears that many other people have this problem.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's a beast to install, 29 Feb 2008

Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
As other posts have said, it really is horrible to install - if you're not too cleaver with PCs i would even attempt it.

there are lots of guides out there from people who've struggled - i tried them all and still failed.

but finally cracked it.

Install the software, you only really need the ZDWlan drivers and utility.

Ensure it's in access point mode, change the ssid name if you want and select your normal network device as the bridge adapter.

Open up Network connections, single click your normal network device, hold ctrl key down and single click your wifimax connection, let ctrl go. with both devices highlighted, right click one of them and create bridge. (if you've previously tried to share your normal connection, unshare before you do this)

double click the new 'bridge' connection, go to properties then the advanced tab, firewall settings, advanced tab again and deselect the firewall from the wifimax connection and the bridge connection.

on the PSP create a new connection, automatic everyting ie no manual input of ips etc and it should work - mine did even with remote play.

My wifimax is set up on my laptop, using it's normal wifi connection to connect to the net, with the wifimax providing an access point for my psp.

Why not connect the psp straight to my wifi you might ask? well it's because of remote play - when using this feature, you have to gain access via an active internet connection If you're sitting in a hotel room and you have to pay for access (btopenzone etc) you open up the web browser and then connect. You don't get this option when using remote play.

So not tried it yet, but i'm hoping to create a hotspot connection on my laptop and get access to the web, then use the wifimax to create an access point for my psp.

i can then watch sony tv (when it becomes avaiable for the ps3) and access any other videos i have stored on there.

sweet. :)

3.0 out of 5 stars A good Wi Fi USB option, 21 Mar 2008
By Mr. Tb Lukins - See all my reviews

Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This item, as other reviews suggest can be quite troublesome to set up, in fact it can be a NIGHTMARE to set up as you will need at least a basic knowledge of network connections before you attempt to get it up and running.

I'm afraid that while this is probably not the best place to say it here are some simple tips to make it work :

-If you have AVG DISABLE THE FIREWALL, you can leave the windows one running but even in allow all mode AVG still feels compelled to prevent this item from working.

-If you recieve the "!" warning on the connection go to network connections select your internet connection right click > properties > Advanced > and check the internet sharing box and select "Wireless Network" in the drop down list.

However aside from the setting up problems this item has managed to salvage some stars as once it is set up it is a very useful tool automatically running the wi fi whenever a internet connection is present on your computer. Its signal I assume is very good, as I cannot easily test it although my Wii seems to get a full signal as does my DS as I move around my house.

The stand is quite handy if not to make it look nicer then to make it more accesible to plug in/unplug, the stand also means it can be placed on a raised spot to help broadcast the Wifi signal.

Finally, price, I think for the trouble this system is to set up it is not worth £30, however, I'm forgetting the possiblility that it will work straight out of the box in which case I would recommend it =D.

Also, incidentally don't be fooled just because this one says "Universal" to my knowledge ALL Wifi USB adapters are universal ;-)
