Product Description

CD Description
'Flat Pack Philosophy' is The Buzzcocks' follow-up album to2003's eponymous 'Buzzcocks'. Although the band may be a little older, their music still rages with the same intensity that they had in the late seventies, and much of the material on this album stands up to their classic albums 'Another Music In A Different Kitchen' and 'Love Bites'. Includes the tracks 'I Don't Exist' and 'Credit'.

5.0 out of 5 stars BUZZCOCKS AT THEIR BEST!, 7 Mar 2006
By daveoto (preston uk) - See all my reviews
It has been 30 years since Buzzcocks first formed and judging by their latest album, they have lost none of their energy or knack of writing killer tunes. Any one of these songs would not be out of place on "singles going steady"!
Pete Shelleys lyrics remain as incisive as ever, whether it's commentating on "the flat-pack society" or relationships gone astray;the new single "wish i never loved you" could even be "love you more"part2.
Steve Diggles constributions are probably his strongest collection on one album.
If you're a fan of punk, forget green day, this is the real deal.
If you're a fan of intelligent, energetic pop music, with killer riffs and sublime melodies, then this album is a must!

5.0 out of 5 stars Give 'Em Credit!, 14 Oct 2006
By Coincidence Vs Fate (Warwickshire, UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Well, for me personally, this is the best album the band have done since the excellent Trade Test Transmissions. The Buzzers started showing a true return to form on the last self-titled effort and this album takes the famous Buzzcocks formula and adds a twist. Listen to the cool "Credit" and you'll know what I mean. I wonder if Pete asked Tescos for permission?!

I don't know how Pete manages it, but he consistently comes up with 180 seconds of pure joy with every song he writes. There are lots of trademark "oohs and aahs", and guitar solos that even I think I could master.

For old Steve though, things never seem that easy. He's seems as angry now as he did 30 years ago. He songs are fast and furious and I have to disagree with another reviewer when I say that "Between Heaven And Hell" is one of the best on the album.

Old fans will buy this anyway, so it's up to us reviewers to persuade the "not-so-sures". If you like the old stuff and want to take a stab at one of the post-split albums then get this one. You won't regret it.

B'dum, b'dum.

3.0 out of 5 stars Altered Image, 29 Jul 2006
By John Bennett - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As a lifetime fan of the Buzzcocks I thought I'd add my contribution to the reviews. Sadly I can't quite share the enthusiasm of the previous reviews and certainly can't see the justification for 5 stars. The strongest qualities of this album are undoubtedly Shelley's lyrics (although not his vocals) and the guitar riffs and melodies. Perhaps a valid criticism of some of Pete's tracks is that they try too hard to capture former glories ("reconciliation" trying to be "promises"?) Try "god what have I done" for great riff, "reconciliation", " look at you now", "I've had enough" and "wish I never..." for classic Shelley. Diggle's collection I'm afraid simply isn't up to it, with the exception of "big brother...". Steve's writing and melodies can't stand comparison with Shelley's and the inclusion of "heaven and hell" on this album is tragic. This has to be one of the worst songs ever written in the history of music(!). The best thing to be said about "soul survivor" is that it is a blatant attempt to repeat "harmony in my head" . I'm sorry but these two track embarrass Steve and the rest of the band and have no place on this album. Steve is a great guitarist and is the right arm of the band but he needs to stick to that role. Singing and writing were never his forte, notwithstanding "autonomy". Painful as it was to write some of that, I love this band and always have. The truth is that this is a good album but cannot pretend to be in the same league as "Another Music...". The classic lyrics and melodies of Shelley as well as some of the old intensity warrant 4 stars but Steve's collection I'm afraid downgrades it to 3.
