3.0 out of 5 stars It's all gone human after all!, 15 Feb 2006
By A Customer
As a DJ I've been playing tunes like 'You Gonna Want Me', the INCREDIBLE 'Pleasure From The Bass', and 'Louder Than A Bomb' for ages and don't get me wrong they rule but that was then and now all us Tiga fans want some cool new stuff to dance to and that's simply where this album baffles and disappoints.

With all those tunes I've mentioned included on this album you could think of this album as a greatest hits album but it doesn't even really hit that mark very accurately as it doesn't include tunes like 'Burning', 'Hot In Here', the more recent 'Do It Don't Stop' and most annoyingly 'Move My Body' - and that track was one of the best he's ever done in my opinion!!!!!!!!!!

So on to the real bad point of this album...the lyrics! I know I know, Tiga has always had his own special brand of retro singing on most of his tracks but it's never been so CRINGEY as it is here with tracks like 'The Ballad Of Sexor', 'Down On It', 'Brothers' or the most hideously disappointing 'Burning Down The House' - which is just awful karaoke rubbish with a line of mid-nineties acid beeps over the top which fail to breathe life into a cover version which is already dead after the first few seconds!!!!

I'm starting to feel guilty by pointing out all these bad points but I have to mention the production in passing to be fair - which is real casio/midi/sega mastersystem stuff by the way! It works when Peaches, Freezepop, Phones, Xlover, or even Light Bulb Project do it but it just falls flat here like the tracks have been done in a rush or something.

However this album isn't all bad...the older tracks are brilliant and if your new to Tiga (where have you been?) you'll probably love it - and I don't mean that sarcastically cos it's nothing to ashamed of! Also 'Good As Gold' and the DFA style percussion on 'Brothers' are good - but maybe not the lyrics eh guys!

So anyway to wrap up this little rant, if you already have the older tracks on this album like the rest of us then just don't bother wasting your money on this because you'll be disappointed by someone who until now has been the coolest, most pioneering electro producer around.

Instead, wait for the remixes which are already floating around, and unsurprisingly the best ones have dumped the lyrics (like on the DFA and Chicken Lips versions of 'Far From Home') or at least tweaked them out of recognition (like on the Digitalism remix).

3.0 out of 5 stars Falls short of our very high expectations!, 17 Feb 2006
By A Customer
I've been lucky enough to catch Tiga Djing in London recently and I was very expectant of an absolute classic, based on his remixes. Unfortunately having raised the bar so high, its a real shame he is let down by a couple of tracks. Highlights include High School, flexibleskulls and Pleasure from the Bass, but Ballad of Sexor is just plain strange and let down by some weak lyrics.

I'm debating whether to give this 3 or 4 stars, and my gut feeling is that it WOULD be 4 except he can do so much better! It's a teaser for what this guy can really do.

My advice? Get the album, listen out for highlights then catch him live. Definately worth the hour-long wait in the freezing cold!

4.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I expected from Tiga, 18 Mar 2006
Tiga's long awaited debut. As expected, Tiga offers his Talking Heads-like vocals in most of the synth-pop, electro-ish tracks of this album. As in previous releases, Jesper Dahlback and Soulwax have contributed their production skills. Besides the well-known You Gonna Want Me, Louder Than A Bomb and Pleasure From The Bass, there is little on offer here. In particular, I enjoyed 3 Weeks, which features an engaging distorted electro sample, and I expect a single with remixes of this track. Definitely one of the best in the album. Other noteworthy tracks are High School, Good As Gold, (Far From) Home (The Speed Of Sexor Reprise) and Sir Sir Sir. One of the weaknesses of this album is that all the versions are short and some tracks, particularly the new ones, should have been extended. I also wanted to see Madame Hollywood, which is one of Tiga's best. Nevertheless a good collective effort by Tiga, but I understand why some fans were disappointed.
