5.0 out of 5 stars Addiction Gaming, 15 Sep 2006

Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
In my opinion, Homm5 is one of the best games to be released this year, no other game has consumed so much of my time (except maybe counter strike:source) as this truly addictive game.

A few major glitches are a big problem (Unable to complete one mission if you dont do it correctly, slightly laggy camera if you move it into the wrong position) that let the game down a lot. However, if, like me you enjoyed the first 3 incarnations of the game this is a vast improvement upon them with a great new 3d camera and sumptuous visuals. Ive spent around 20 - 30 hours already on the game and im only half way through, not including the many multiplayer missions ive played against my brother. However, two big problems which will be hopefully sorted by an update or expansion is the lack of maps / map editor and teams in multiplayer (all vs all is the only option

Even with these disadvantage it is well worth it and has been for me even more enjoyable, or at least on a par with, Oblivion. Which i would rank as the best single player rpg of all time... i guess that shows how much i love Homm5 and i hope u will too

2.0 out of 5 stars Very nearly great....., 5 Jun 2006

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
VAST improvement on the previous installment. Fantastic graphics without cluttering up the scenery too much and a welcome return to the more complex town building and larger number of creature types per town. However, there are definitely not enough scenarios with this edition and, being cynical, doubtless more will be on sale later on. Also, your choices to set up the scenarios (eg town type, hero, colour etc) are very limited, making it difficult to extract maximum value by replaying every which way you can. The lack of a random map generator is a huge negative so expect to be parting with more cash once you've (very quickly) played what you can. Another niggle is that even playing on the largest maps ("very big") it still feels like you're ferreting about in someone's back yard. It lacks the epic feel of Heroes III's XL maps and makes it difficult to attain higher levels. However, the skills and abilities arrangement is excellent and combined with racial abilities makes for you & your enemies pulling some pretty wicked tricks out of the bag during battles ! Great fun, high quality but low content suggests we may be milked later on.....

4.0 out of 5 stars Back to the roots...thank you!, 22 May 2006

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I'm a huge fan of the HoMM series and played them all; including the dreadful HoMM IV. So I was a bit sceptical about buying this latest installment. But how relieved I was to notice that the designers have gone back for inspiration to HoMM III!!! Same joy of play with the added stunning good 3D environmental graphics. The city screen is a jawdropper and I spend quiet a while just looking around the cities. The combat animations are very well rendered and sometimes really funny (a titan stomps his opponent flat). So why not 5 stars? Well, there is still no custom map builder and the 3D environment sometimes makes it hard to spot things. Really small things that should not keep you from running off to the store and buy it.
