Synopsis

This rare footage of one of the most innovative, entertaining, and progressive bands of the 1980s features Devo at its automaton best, playing at the Phoenix Theatre in Petaluma, California. The 1980 concert featured all the songs that garnered the band its well-deserved attention. Featuring the synthesiser driven, electro pop sound developed by Mark Mothersbaugh and Jerry Casale to express the de-evolution they saw in the increasingly alienating world around them, populated by humans of an ever more herd-like mentality. With songs like 'Whip It', 'Girl U Want', and '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction', Devo knew how to make a statement while making its audience get up and dance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely fantastic, 25 Jun 2007
By John Corteen - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As a fresh faced 16 year old I was lucky enough to be present at the Rainbow Theatre in the second row to see Devo perform on the 8 June 1980. I can't tell if any of the footage is actually from the Rainbow but it takes me straight back there. This DVD absolutely reflects Devo's original style and brings back very fond memories for me. The fact there is an audio CD of the whole play-list on the other side of the DVD makes the purchase exceptional value for money. I realise that Devo are an acquired taste but I think everyone should give them a chance.

I am currently watching this DVD to set the scene for Devo's performance at the Shepherds Bush Empire on 26 June 2007. Where did those 27 years go??

4.0 out of 5 stars Devo - Live 1980, 30 May 2006
By G. Hill (Reading UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Very good live & raw DVD footage of DEVO from the 1980s includes tracks Whip It, Pink Pussycat, (I cant get no) Satisfaction, Gut Feeling / Slap Your Mammy, Come back Jonee & more on the A side of the DVD, turning the DVD over to the B side there are live audio tracks. Parts of the DVD on the long video shots are partially blurred due to bright lights & camera equipment, but overall its a very good buy.
