The Proporta Alu case is in my opinion, pretty close to case nirvana. It's quite a bit more expensive than some other leather iPod cases I've seen, twice as expensive in some cases. I bought the Proporta to house my 5G 80GB iPod which fits perfectly within the modest frame of the case. Leaving you with an unassuming case that is both stylish and inconspicuous (read as not likely to be stolen).

What does the money buy you? The leather is very good quality and well finished. There is stitching all over the case which reinforces the strength of the design. Also there is a slight lip or overlap that extends beyond the iPod around the edges. This would ensure that should you drop your beloved 'pod you'd have a certain amount of buffer. The lining within the case itself is a velvety smooth, once again ensuring your iPod stays safe and scratch free.

Inside the from cover of the case is a thin aluminium sheet which protects the screen from any impacts should you place the case in your bag or pocket. This is a very clever piece of design and unique in my experience. It affords you a lot more confidence when putting your iPod away.

Finally there is a detachable belt clip (detached by default) which you can screw onto the case. In my opinion this looks a little nerdy and would certainly add to the bulk of the case.

Overall this is an excellent, high quality product. As mentioned I bought this to house my 80GB 5G iPod which fits snugly inside the case. Fitting one of the lower capacity (thinner) iPods e.g. 30GB might not be quite so good however as I could imaging these might slide out. Well worth the money.

Simple design and effective design though it didn't save the screen from scratching. I bought a plastic screen protector in the end. In fact the position of the closing stud is a further hazard to the screen! The pic on Amazon shows the ipod 'upside down' in the case...to the only opening for the headphone socket is where the case closes. Forget about charging or sync'g with the case closed though I don't see that as a problem myself.

The case is robust - lined with Aluminum. The may explain how my ipod as managed to survive two or three falls (desk to floor) already.

I researched long and hard and ended up buying this leather case. As with the other reviews it is **near** perfect. If fits my 30GB Video iPod like a glove, is very strudy, is constructed well and the aluminium insert really protects the face of the iPod when closed.

The flip over cover also means that you can prop the ipod up for video watching etc.

One thing I would firmly recommend though is that as well as this case you also purchase an "invisible shield" (can be found on amazon and google!) This covers the whole of the ipod with a protective film, including the all important screen. I have installed one on mine and I am finding that the internal stiching on the leather case is leaving small indentations on the shield, which would otherwise be occuring on the unprotected body. It also protects the ipod when putting in and taking it out.

Dont let this put you off the Leather case, it really is the best I could find, and with the "shield" is a perfect combination.
