Over the past year type records have released some of the most intruiging albums. Perhaps it is Khonnor who is there centre piece (and deservedly so), but with with other acts like Julien Neto and Sanso Xtro, Type are establishing themselves at the forefront of electronic music. Deaf Center's 'Pale Ravine' is in the same ilk as there label mates, and with this record have more than surpassed the debut EP, 'Neon City'. 'Pale Ravine' is dark and involving, blending classical elements with electronic subtleties. I urge you not to be put off the pretentious description by Type records that this is "a romantic, theatrical work where each track tells part of a story", because all you need to know is that this is an outfit with potential, spirit, guile and intriuge. Oh, and if you don't like the record, it is probably proof that you don't have a heart. But please, don't let my candour put you off. Buy this record - discover an intensely promising outfit - and support an important record label!

Fantastic follow up to their neon city ep. Lush, meandering, cerebral, wonderfullness. Sweeping classical strings and piano with subtle electronic intervention. This album is highly emotive and stimulating.

I picked this record up after hearing a Deaf Center track on one of the free mixes featured on the Type Records website, and I have to say that it has well exceeded my expectations. Type is a pretty consistent record label, in that I find a lot of their stuff good, but not incredible. However, this record is a cut above.
It is still much in the same vein as a lot of other Type stuff - dark, moody, cinematic neo-classical - but the album holds together a lot more coherently, and sounds like a fully matured beast, while a few other Type records (Ryan Teague's 'Six Preludes' for example) have just that little untangible something missing to make them into really great records.
The stand out track for me is undoubtedly 'White Lake', with it's plodding piano and bass that unnoticeably escalate and then fade into a beautiful hum of exhaustion. A record to listen to late at night.
