4.0 out of 5 stars Online Boxing has never been so fun..., 2 April 2006
By Mr. S. D. Downs "SD Downs" (Rugeley, UK) - See all my reviews

... It's never been possible before either. I love boxing, and I love good boxing games. This is a good boxing game. It's not great, and the inclusion of the online multiplayer means EA has seriously neglected the single player mode, so if you don't have Xbox Live don't update your Fight Night round 2 to this, you'll be dissapointed.

If you do have Xbox Live, then come on into the ring, get this game and get online. I had serious worries about how well this would play online, EA servers being so poor most of the time. But some how, despite having a poor match set up feature, and occasional blips and glitches, they have managed it so that once you are into a match everything is ok. I've had lag just twice and each time it only lasted a round or two and then went away. The game doesn't crash too much, and generally the online players are polite and not too skilled.

They may have rushed the single player mode, and just about got lucky with the EA servers, but they have put real work into the game play this time. Boxing like a real boxer actually pays off.

2.0 out of 5 stars EA Fall short again!, 16 Mar 2006
What an utter disappointment. After the improved but still slightly flawed fight night round 2, I was expecting bigger and better things with the 3rd installment of EA fight night. How they failed to deliver. EA have taken a backward step with round 3, making the game play more sluggish, more irritating and worse graphics than the first 2 versions. How they came up with the design for this I’ll never know. Still in keeping with the whole Hip Hop music flavour, (Which barely worked with the 1st game!) there’s some good music here and the usual options (create your own boxer/career etc.) are still there, but rather than improving on the last outing, EA have just changed the look and navigation (which looks clumsy and pasted together anyway) and have not added anything really new or innovative. There are 2 new punch moves to be mastered; however as with the game play itself, they are clumsy and awkward to pull off.
There are a couple of nice little action scenes before title bouts etc. which do well to add a bit of atmosphere, but once the action gets going, you quickly forget about this and start thinking about a new game pad as you've just thrown yours against a wall!
If you liked the first 2 games, this will probably annoy the hell out of you because there's no change. If you haven't, it's worth a look but i would recommend Round 2 instead!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fight Night Round 3: wow!, 5 April 2006

I think this is a fantastic game. I've never played any kind of boxing sim before but thought this was brilliant.
Rather than hectic button bashing and looking at stat bars etc. you have to fight tactically and pay attention to how your character looks and plays to gather how tired or damaged they are.
Xbox version graphics are far from poor but not amazing. I think this is due to the 360 version: the graphics are film like at some points. No joke. I think that developers are probably not putting as much effort in to the graphics on the xbox anymore as they have the 360's power to do play with.
Making an xbox version is presumably a kind, but half arsed gesture to those of us who either cannot afford or obtain a 360. Oh and to maximise profit!

To summarise:
Good graphics
Great controls
Very responsive
Vicious but tactical
Absorbing

I'd reccomend it! Remember though I may have poor taste!!
