Product Description
A hilarious and charming road movie, Familia Rodante is the latest feature from Pablo Trapero, one of the new generation of directors currently revolutionising Argentinian cinema. The tale begins in Buenos Aries with the 84th birthday celebration of Grandma Emilia, who tells her stunned family that she has been invited to be matron of honour at her niece s wedding and expects them to accompany her on the thousand kilometre trip. One heavy dose of emotional blackmail later, thirteen members of four generations cram into a ramshackle old camper van and set off on the epic journey across Argentina. As the days pass and the van hobbles towards its destination, emotions within its cramped confines run high and the journey seems set to last a lot longer than any of its occupants had bargained for.

Synopsis
A family of thirteen spanning four generations travels across Argentina in a camper van.

Watchable but ultimately disappointing, there being a rather thin plot and little in the way of character development. My Spanish wasn't really up to it, but the subtitles did sometimes seem to be a long way from what was being said on screen and, in fact, it was quite difficult to catch much of the conversation. It was also quite difficult to understand why the journey kept taking them from tarmac'd roads, to dirt roads and back to good roads. On the plus side, the scenery was good and I thought that the music was perfect.

For a light hearted Argentinian film, I would rather recommend Sorin's "Bombom el perro"

"Familia Rodante" ("The Rolling Family") is only a moderately appealing tale about a large extended family travelling across Argentina in a rickety camper van to attend a relative's wedding.En route, the van packs in several times and tempers predictably become frayed. The film is mostly unremarkable and easily forgettable which I think is due to the excessively large number of characters in the film all of whom we never quite get to know during the 95 minute running time.

I have to utterly disagree with the comments of the former reviewers - I really enjoyed this film. The beginning of the film is a little mediocre with the family embarking on a long journey in a van, but once the road trip is well on the way the plot heats up with "truthful" (if slightly clichéd) and comedic family tensions - eventually boiling over - all in hilarious contrast to the vivid and romantic scenery. Granted, it's an artistic exaggeration of the reality of travelling with family, but it makes for a great 100 minutes.
