To be honest I was unsure whether to buy this DVD. Having not really listened to Within Temptation for about 9 months my recollection of the Silent Force album was that it was good but a little too polished. However I am thrilled I purchased this because the Java Island concert is the most incredible live performance I've ever seen and that would be an understatement. What distinguishes it is firstly the surreal setting. The stage is initially shrouded by a grey overcast twilight sky; behind the stage runs a river active with boats and moored in the background is an ocean liner, the Crystal Symphony. As the concert progresses the dark closes in, the liner is lit up and the stage is alive with colours, pyrotechnics and occasionally hooded figures. Secondly the whole event looks and feels live because it's recorded on video so the hues are vibrant and you can almost feel the cold air. The photography is inspired and expertly captures both the audience view and the intimacy of being on stage. Thirdly the songs in a live arena become more energetic. With the studio production veneer removed hidden layers of sound are exposed and the lyrics especially those from Silent Force divulge a hitherto dormant intensity. The opening song, Deceiver of Fools may at first appear an unusual choice but it works perfectly in eliciting an excited and widespread audience participation. The majority of the songs are from Silent Force but classic tracks from Mother Earth and Enter round off the show in style especially the final song, a stirring version of Ice Queen dazzling with a storm of confetti. Sharon's voice is on top form complimented by a charismatic and passionate stage presence and supported by a zealous performance from the group as a whole. Repeated viewing does not diminish the magnitude of this event and I wish I'd been there but until the secret of time travel is discovered this will suffice.

The other two short concert excerpts are good but not in the same league as the Java Island performance but nonetheless solid recitals. The first disc also includes the videos released to accompany the singles from Silent Force. Having experienced problems viewing these on my PC it was a delight to see them included especially as they are all so atmospheric with Angels being particularly sinister in its interpretation.

The second bonus disc is an interesting look behind the scenes at the making of the album and the concerts but in common with most features of this sort not the kind of think you are likely to watch again or only in part. However the main reason for purchase has to be the Java Island concert which you will want to watch repeatedly. My interest in WT has been reignited and they have resumed their position as my favourite group.

I am a fan of Within Temptation and my expectations were high... I must say they were met, 200%. This DVD is definitely worth having!! Tons of extra footage from performances, interviews, makings of videoclips, appearances at award ceremonies, etc... And last but not least, the stunning concert at Java Island which is nothing short of brilliant. Amazingly shot, Sharon's spectacular vocals and wardrobe and as a whole, the entire band, scenery... PERFECT!!! Top-quality all the way!!
I give it an A+++++++!!!

I bought this DVD on a whim, having never heard anything by Within Temptation before, but as it was recommended to me and was only �10 from Amazon Jersey, I thought I'd give it a whirl. It's the best ten quid I've spent in years.
WT have got to be one of the best bands that no one in this country has ever heard of. Since getting this DVD (and everything else I've been able to find by WT) I've played it to numerous people, all of whom can't believe that talent such as this can go un-noticed.
The DVD itself has got to be rated as top value for money. The main event is the Java Island concert, which at almost an hour and a half of top quality music makes the DVD worth the asking price alone. On top of that you get 2 concert extracts (about 20 minutes each) 3 music videos, and on the second disc enough documentary footage to fill any wet winter afternoon.
All in all I would urge anyone who love great music to buy this - you won't regret it.
