Synopsis

The follow-up to his 2003 horror hit HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES, Rob Zombie's THE DEVIL'S REJECTS continues the story of a bizarre group of very odd people who like to torture, maim, and kill virtually everyone they come in contact with. When Sheriff Wydell (William Forsythe) pays a visit to the body-ridden lair of Mother Firefly (Leslie Easterbrook, taking over the role played by Karen Black in the first film), her children Otis (Bill Moseley) and Baby (Sheri Moon Zombie) are forced to run, eventually holing up in a roadside motel with four hostages (including Clint Eastwood regular Geoffrey Lewis and THREE'S COMPANY star Priscilla Barnes). Seeking help from creepy clown Captain Spaulding (Sid Haig), they continue their murderous rampage while being tracked by Wydell, who is hellbent on avenging the death of his brother, which came at the hands of this very weird and dangerous family. As Wydell tortures Mother Firefly for answers, Otis and Baby torture their hostages for kicks. Zombie, a heavy metal musician who leads the group White Zombie, infuses his exciting, funny, and terrifying gorefest with a fabulous 1970s soundtrack, using such songs as Elvin Bishop's 'Fooled Around And Fell In Love' and David Essex's 'Rock On' at inappropriately riotous moments. Part BONNIE AND CLYDE, part THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, part THE WILD BUNCH, Zombie's bloody barrage is filled with unexpected plot twists and surprises unique to this genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars !!!!!ZOMBIE FOR AN OSCAR!!!!!!!!!, 9 Mar 2006
By J. Watson (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Quite simply, this is one of the best movies i`ve seen in the past few years. When this was released i was a little scepticle as i was slightly bewildered by House Of 1000 Corpses (which is what Devils Rejects spins off from) but enjoyed it all the same and i didnt want to see it ruined by a usual "drag-out" sequel, but i must say Zombie has done himself proud. In my opinion he has taken all his mistakes from his 1st film (and lets be honest, even though i enjoyed 1000 Corpses, there were quite a few!), and he`s put them right... And MAN has he put them right!

The Devils Rejects is a much more serious film and should be taken for exactly that, there are still some good one-liners and moments that will make you chuckle, but it remains a kick-ass movie and in my opinion matches, if not excells, any Tarantino pre-Fiction movies. It spirals away from the horror genre and is more thriller/action/crime all rolled into one, but stays with its roots of the 1st movie. If you havent seen House Of 1000 Corpses it shouldnt matter as you will pick the storyline up easily although you may benfit from seeing it so you can get to know the background of certain characters which feature in this movie. If you HAVE seen a 1000 corpses and are frankly put off by seeing this (and i expect a few people will have been!) then i URGE u not to let The Devils Rejects pass you by cos it is an AWESOME movie and you WILL be missing out...
If you liked House Of 1000 corpses then you`ll LOVE The Devils Rejects. If you DIDNT like House Of 1000 Corpses then you`ll LOVE Devils Rejects...
The soundtrack is fantastic too and sets the scene perfectly. There are also enough extras on the dvd to keep you going, in fact this is probably the best extras disc i have seen!

All in all, a HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and fantastic film that is entertaining till the end. Constant action, amazing effects, excellent acting by all, makes this film a MUST OWN and should be in EVERYONES collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars "The Angel Gang" on Acid, 1 Feb 2006
By Green Man Music "green-man-music" (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
"The Devil's Rejects" is the sequel to Rod Zombie's "House Of 1,000 Corpses" and to appreciate it you'd certainly need to see its predecessor. The Devil's Rejects is the story of the psychopathic Firefly and their flight from the law as the police net begins to close in on them.

The Firefly family are a kind of twisted, tripping version of the Angel family in the old Judge Dredd comics. In 'House' they waylaid travellers into their home for an evening of wild entertainment, usually ending in the bizarre ritualistic mutilation and torture of their guests. In "Rejects" however, they aren't quite so perverse in their actions, being upstaged by the equally psychopathic cop who is tracking them down.

It is possibly because of this that in "Rejects", despite the Firefly family being perverse necrophiliac homicidal maniacs, I actually found myself rooting for them. By the end of the film, in fact, I was somewhat horrified to find myself on their side. Credit has to go to Zombie & Co for being able to make an audience sympathise with such characters!

One minor disappointment was the loss of the "surreal" edge that was found in "House", being replaced by a more straightforward sadism (if that's not too much of an oxymoron). This 'dumbed down' "Rejects" slightly for me. "House" and "Rejects" have never been your standard slasher fare, and whilst more disturbing they're also more intelligent and fascinating which is why I feel so justified in liking them so much :-)

The characterisations of the dsyfunctional, immature and irrational psychopath family are as always excellent with Sheri Moon Zombie shining as the utterly irresistable but deeply disturbed sadistic seductress "Baby".

In summary, "Rejects" is a fast-moving feast of sex, mayhem and violence with some blinding blues music as the score which builds up into a sweeping "high noon" style climax. I truly hope there will be more to follow.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good, 10 May 2006
By G. M. Petzl "Gaby" (London, UK) - See all my reviews

After having seen 'House of a 1000 Corpses', which I hated and actually made me question why I am a horror fan, I hadn't expected too much from 'Devil's Rejects' either, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.
I thought it was a very enjoyable movie that had us screaming at the TV for the weird and very brutal 'Firefly' family to be caught or killed by the police.
There are some gory and gross scenes that are definitely not for the squeamish among us, but the movie is a must see for all horror fans.
Look out for the scene with the horrible death of the last band member that falls victim to the family - brilliant.
