Synopsis

Irish rocker Rory Gallagher is a talented singer-songwriter whose guitar powered rock is laced with a boogie-, blues sensibility. This compilation of live performances was released to coincide with the 10th Anniversary year of his death (14.6.95). Features live concerts from Cologne (1976), Grugahalle (1977), Loreley (1982), Wiesbaden (1979), and Cologne (1990) including two Jam Sessions from 1979 and 1982. Tracklist includes: 'Pistol Slapper Blues', 'Too Much Alcohol', 'Out On The Western Plain', 'Bankers Blues', 'Rag Mama Rag', 'Nothing But The Devil' and many more.

This 3 DVD collection spans 14 years of Rory Gallagher and is quite simply a superb reminder of him doing what he did best - playing live.

From the 1976 performance in a German TV studio in Cologne through to a 1990 performance also in Cologne, we are treated to an artist at the very peak of his craft. Rory had a stage persona that demanded your full attention and in return the viewer was rewarded with some mesmeric performances.

There are occasions in these DVD's where the sound quality dips, particularly at the start of the Loreley concert but it quickly recovers and does not detract from the overall enjoyment.

The concerts encompass the whole range of the Gallagher portfolio and I believe will stand to serve as an example to up and coming blues musicians how great energy and a joy of performing will always be received by appreciative audiences.

It is 11 years in June 2006 since his death and this collection is a most welcome addition to the Rory material readily available. We have Donal Gallagher to thank for this. Please don't stop looking for others.

At the end of his shows Rory always used to say "Thank you very much and I hope you enjoyed the show"

We did and thanks to this release we still can!

I was very fortunate to have seen the legend that is Rory Gallagher in the late 70's and early 80's and was destroyed by news of his death.He was the greatest live act that I ever had the privelege to experience, beyond doubt the finest Blues Rock Guitarist (for me) in the world. His persona during concerts shone fiercely fuelled by an energy and enthusiasm that was both electrifying and disbelieving.He became the instrument that he was playing turning it into a living creature that could not be satisfied. He lived his life for his music and felt every emotion that he poured into it.That is what makes him so special and this DVD compilation, luckily for those who never got the chance to feel him live captures that raw energy and essence and at least gives the new listener or should I say observer the magic that was Rory Gallagher! You have to buy this set!. I did and was still left reeling at the total dedication,atmosphere,enthusiasm and willpower of a man that made you listen,made you want to listen and still plays to you in spirit now and beckons you to listen.Wow!!! Enjoy!! Absolutely stunning

If (like me) you brought last years 'live at Rockpalast' dvd prepare to be ripped off again because its included in this box set and if (like me) you have to have it then its more expense. I was caught out with the 'let's get to work' box set when the Holland gig was reissued seperately. Sure Rory live is something to be savoured, but i can't help but feel cheated and feel sure that Rory wouldn't of treated his fans this way.
