I’ve had “Driven By Loss” for a week and I just can’t help drawing the obvious parallels between Buzzkill and the pioneers of the American railroads in the late 19th century. Just like the hard-workin’, tobacco-chewin’ navvies on the Sante Fe & New Mexico RR, once these guys start building, they just keep going at maximum speed until they come hard up against the Pacific Ocean.
But Buzzkill are no antiquated steam-powered train of Pullman carriages, complete with restaurant car and 24 hour porterage. No way. The first riff hooks up to your brain like an aural caboose and as soon as the first beautifully crafted sax/trumpet/drum/guitar break rattles over the points you know you’re on board a 2000hp diesel-locomotive-hauled, utter-b*stard freight-train of an album.
And judging by the number of repeat plays my copy of the “Driven By Loss” has had, this is no local freight transfer. No siree. This is a mile-long coal train which runs coast to coast, then bumps its load and comes back, hungry for more.
