5.0 out of 5 stars How it's done (pt 2), 2 Aug 2008
Quite simply how anime should be done but so often isn't. No over-emotional garbage, no cheap shortcuts, no lazy "It'll do" animation. Felt quite deflated when I'd seen every episode. Anyone interested in animation should check out this along with Shinichiro's other creation; Samurai Champloo. Oh and, don't be lazy, watch the subtitles version.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Folk Blues, 29 May 2007

This is the second part of the series & has some of the most rememberable episodes from the entire series. The music is fantastically done By Yoko Kanno & the Seatbelts. The finale, The Real Folk Blues Pt 1&2, is one of the best endings in any series that you are likely to see.

The English Dub Is also excellent

I would recommend it to any and all fans of anime and also anyone who is just a fan of a good action show with some humour in it

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my all time favourites., 18 Feb 2009
By Michael Robson (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This series is a `must have' for anyone who has watched the movie and wants to see more of the Cowboy Bebop crew. However, those who are not familiar with Cowboy Bebop may have seen the equally popular Samurai Champloo. Both series are made by the same animation studio and are equally great in my opinion. So if you have seen one of the above I recommend you watch the other. Although the series begins as standalone episodes (due to the shows insecure future prospects at the time) they slowly introduce a more coherent and in depth story arc. However, the standalone episodes are brilliant in their own right. The animation is pretty decent for this calibre of anime, but those who have watched the movie will see the difference a big budget can make with regard to animation quality. The English Dub is one of the rare Dubs that is actually quite excellent. So whether you watch it in Japanese or English you should not be disappointed.

So what is Cowboy Bebop about then? Well the series is set in the far future. Hyperspace gateways allow rapid travel within the Solar system, which have allowed many planet side and space communities to grow. Crime is rife, corporations and the Police are corrupt and mercenaries are readily available. This is where the crew of the Bebop come in. They are part of a ever growing Bounty Hunter community that 'support' the Police Force, but at a price. The crew spend their time trying to strike it big with a decent bounty, but usually end up spending most of the reward money on repairing their ships, buying food and more awkwardly acquiring even more quirky crewmates. The animation style is unique and the locations styles swing from being rather retro-futuristic, to present day New York and even a little bit of Film Noir in flashback scenes. The fights range from gunfights, to space battles and of course to good old fistfights. The main protagonist Spike generally favours the latter, fighting with some rather Bruce Lee style moves. An excellent anime series with some great plots, some light hearted comedy and some memorable characters.
