5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, 26 May 2006
Having no knowledge about wireless networks at all, and being a dreadful pessimist I cannot believe how well the BT Voyager 2110 Wireless Router works.

True, setting up the network for 3 computers took me about an hour when it should only have taken five minutes... dire mistakes were made... but I was rescued by excellent BT support (0870 243 3204 and then hit the 9 if you want to talk to a human being). In brief, this router is great and it works fine in our office and it would be great for any home wireless network. If, like me, you are new to wireless networks, you need to know that, as well as buying the Wireless Router, you will need to buy a wireless adapter for each PC that you want to connect to the internet through your wireless router. A wireless adapter essentially acts as an aerial for each PC connected to the network and plugs into a USB socket on each computer.

On the advice of other buyers at Amazon I bought three 3Com Office Connect Wireless 11G (54Mbps) USB Adapters. They were only fifteen pounds each in the Amazon market place and they are great.

Here are some notes which may help you get your router into action. I have used 3com wireless adapters, but there are many other good ones out there.

1. Assuming you have a broadband account and know your user ID, connect your router through the filter which comes with it to your phone line and switch it on. There is only one socket on the back of the router for your incoming line (don't do what I did and stick your incoming line into one of the 4 Ethernet cable sockets...) stick it into the single socket.

2. IMPORTANT: Make sure that you have found and written down the Wireless Key Code for your Wireless Router. On the BT Voyager 2110 Wireless Router the code is on the bottom of the Router.

3. Download the latest software for your wireless adapters from www.3com.com in this case (search for 3CRUSB10075 at the site). If you do not have access to the internet at this point you'll need to go with the drivers that come on the CD with the adapters and you can always update the drivers later. But if you can avoid it, do not load the software that comes with the adapters.

4. When downloading your drivers save them to a folder and double click on the download folder to extract them.

5. Plug the adapter into a USB socket and when prompted by Windows, guide Windows to your downloaded driver's folder. Windows (XP) will now install the adapter.

6. You may be automatically asked for the Wireless Key Code (see 2 above). It is very IMPORTANT that your wireless adapter knows the Router's Wireless Key Code. To check that the adapter knows the Wireless Key Code, after the adapter has been installed, go to Start, Control Panel, Network Connections, and right click on Wireless Network Connection and then right click on View Available Wireless Networks and make sure that your Wireless Key Code is correctly typed in the Key Code box (yes, it is case sensitive).

7. Make sure that the firewall is enabled and you can also enable encryption to prevent your neighbors from tuning in!

8. If the adapter is installed, and it has its Wireless Key Code then open up your internet browser and follow instructions in your Router's manual to connect to your Internet Service Provider (all you need to do here is type in your ID and password).

And you're really in business! It is hopefully much easier than it looks. It is a great router and if someone with no wireless network knowledge can get it running, with a little help from one telephone call (all information from the phone call is above), it deserves five stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars What did I tell you, 8 Mar 2007

I bought this modem/router after my first purchase(a belkin)would not sync with my exchange, despite my basic BT Voyager 105 working fine. As expected the BT Voyager 2110 was fully setup in ten minutes.

I can't reccommend this product highly enough.

If you live in the UK and want a unit of this type, buy this one, don't take the risk with any of the others.

The surprising thing is that BT have got something right for a change! Well done.

Oh, and I don't work for them, in case you were wondering.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy, 12 April 2006
By dan_wales (Wales, UK) - See all my reviews
Initially I bought a another Router and it was an absolute piece of garbage - many online reviews agree (if only I had seen them before buying it.) So I returned it and bought this router. A complete world of difference.

The walls in my house are so thick that I cant get a decent mobile phone signal but still this router provides a consistantly strong signal throughout my entire place. Set up was incredibly easy, I was surfing everywhere after about 10 minutes of taking this out of the box. I couldnt recommend it more.
