Four brilliant albums in under four years makes DST one of the most prolific bands so far this century! How does Devon Graves do it? The man is a genius. For those new to the band, the sound is kind of progressive industrial, varying from almost dark metal to something a bit like Lennon. Well that's how I'd describe it anyway, if that makes sense. The themes have been described as fear (of progress, time, society, death etc) and longing. That's kind of accurate I guess, and the sound is, overall, surprisingly warm. Devon manages to tap into the subconscious and feels like a long-lost friend.
This, the fourth album is like its predecessor more guitar based. I wish there was more piano and keyboards, one song in particular, Some Sane Advice, sounds like it could benefit from a piano track in the chorus like some of the tracks on Murder of Crows. There's also less flute than on The January Tree, and Adels drumming is a bit less manic. But the songs are a bit deeper and there are some slow burners here.
For DST fans, I'd say this is the second best after Murder which will be difficult for Devon and Adel to equal.
