If you don't know Jens Lekman, you should, and OH YOU'RE SOSILENT JENS, a compilation of his best work from the early 2000s, is an excellent place to get acquainted with this charming singer/songwriter. Bringing together work from his EPsand proper albums with singles and remixes, the set is solid through and through.
Like Stephen Merritt and his inspirations, George and Ira Gershwin, Lekman writes those rare songs that are funny, tender, clever, caustic, and heartbreakingly poignant all at once. His use of samples (often simple, yet perfectly so) and orchestrated chamber pop arrangements reveal a deep study of pop knowledge. But beyond both Lekman's skills as a sound architect and his uncanny knack with a beautiful melody, it is his surprisingly powerful lyrics and strangely affecting deadpan delivery that help make this a small-scale pop masterpiece.

This is one of the most beautiful albums I've heard. The song order and the way they flow through one and each other is fantastic in itself. The songs are awesome, there is a great use of instruments providing rich sounds and melodies. The lyrics are also fantastic. I highly reccomend this album. It will make up for all the albums you thought were going to be good when you bought them.

Just heard a Noth American import version and this will be the first classic must have album of 2006 mark my words. This time next year it will be top of many a "best of" list. My favs are Maple leaf, which I hopes become a single, and Black Cab.

Could 2006 see Northern Europe take back the indie torch from North America?

It gets the obligatory Amazonian 5 stars

The first time I listened to this album, I didn't really listen to it; it just seemed like pleasant, sometimes melancholy, sometimes upbeat background music. I left it to the side for a while, then went back to it and realised that I had been completely wrong; it is a beautiful, haunting, humorous and compulsive album. Every time I listen to it I seem to find something new; this album is a great secret to have, but better to share.
