5.0 out of 5 stars Another classic from SI, 11 April 2006
By Ben "hudds giant" (West Yorks, UK) - See all my reviews
For a while now i've been enjoying football management games and feel im in a good position to comment on 'Football Manager; Handheld' as ive played every franchise's take on the popular game type. Back in the early 90's mention championship manager and most football fans would regard it as the best game on the market. Since of course, we've had Premier manager, LMA, Total club manager and more recently Pro evolution manager. As i'm sure many of you are aware, football manager is made by the guys who made the old championship managers but after contraversially parting from developer eidos they had to change the name. Football manager is the new Championship manager.

What a game it is. We're already 2 versions in on the PC, both are gaming perfection (regardless of how hard it is to get any transfer money whatsoever for Huddersfield Town) So as soon as the PSP version was announced, im guessin a fair few owners thumbs were anticipating the, battery draining, protable debut of this amazing game.

I'm only reviewing the promotional release copy but as far as i know its identical the one set for release later this week, and thats no bad thing. The game just feels right. After i'd tried CM for the psp i was aprehensive but after pulling off half a season in a day my worries were put to rest. There may be a few areas that have been sacrificed from the original but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. The suiprisingly quick loading times almost make up for the lack of transfer clauses, match engines and ability to release media stories.

Another suprising bonus was that all teams are accurate from Jan 2006 meaning all the big signings of this year are ready in your teams lineup.

If you listen to one piece of advice all year... go with the better game and not the name. Try football manager before you even consider Championship manager, there's no comparison.

One improvement for next year though, a possible pc/psp link-up would be perfect.

10/10, 100%, 5 Stars, amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Football Manager Handheld is brilliant, 23 April 2006
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
After buying Championship Manager for the psp and found it to be awful. I hoped FMH would be a big improvement and to my delight it was. The game is very similair in many aspects to Football manager on the PC but edios have made a few tweaks to improve the gameplay and navigation. The gameplay is fantastic and the navigation is much improved as its so simple.

If you do buy Football Manager Handheld then here are some players you must buy(in brackets i have put howmuch you will have to pay for them.):-

Leo Messi(10m)Barcelona
Jean ll Makoun(4m)Lille
John Obi Mikel(2.3m)Lyn
Igor Akinfeev(10m)CSKA Moskow

They are all vey young and throughout the season their value will at least double for example after my first season John Obi Mikel was valued at 22.5m and Leo messi was then worth 29.5m.

So to conclude my review Football manager Handheld is a must get for all football fans but be warned its very addictive.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good But Sometimes A Little Easy And tiresome, 11 Jun 2006
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
First Of All i would like to say that if you are going to buy a psp manager game this is the one you should buy. I made the mistake of thinking that Championship Manager was still the top game but, not hearing about SI and Eidos's split, and bought that one. After a couple of days i realized it was not the same as my old PC games. So i promptly took it back and discovered football manager which in short is really the old, good Championship Manager.
This game is better in every department that CM. The game system is a lot better and players are more realistic in pricing and how good they are as well as results being more realistic. My only criticisms of the game is that sometimes it is a little too easy as there are too many good south american young players. I, after sending a scout there bought several young players and managed to win the championship comfortably with Crystal Palace and next season come 4th and the following season get to the champions league final. Also because of it being a lot simpier than the PC version can sometimes get a bit samey. Overall though a top buy which i would thouroughly recommend
