This issue is self-recommending and in very decent sound (70 years old) though with a tantalizing "what might have been" track in the form of a short extract from "Cockaigne" in 'accidental' stereo. It is amazing what exciting results Elgar, only an occasional conductor, gets. His 'tempi' are quite brisk by modern standards - and all the better for that - and the orchestra uses quite a lot of 'portamento', now considered 'old fashioned', to our greater loss.
