3.0 out of 5 stars Makes great popcorn but a bit messy!, 24 Nov 2005
By A Customer
It's a much better way than just popping corn in a pan, you wont end up with any burnt popcorn as you so often do in a pan although one problem is the way it comes out of the top once popped is a bit hap-hazard and you will end up with some on the floor, also quite a few unpopped kernels get shoved out although these can be put back in (once cooled down!). I think the problem is the lid opening may be a bit wide and the lid on the slightly more expensive PP25 model looks better (although reading the reviews losing corn on the floor also seems to be a problem!), you just have to make sure you stand over it whilst it's popping to scoop up all the ones that miss the bowl!

For the price though (under a tenner), can't really complain too much, does also seem a bit flimsy so not sure how long it would last with regular use but it comes with a 2 year gaurantee. I think if I bought another one day I would go for a more expensive model that distributes the popped corn less randomly!

1.0 out of 5 stars An excellent tool for chucking popcorn kernals on the floor, 27 Dec 2005

If you're going to buy a popcorn maker, you probably are thinking something like ... "isn't one popcorn maker as good as another in the grand scheme of things?, shouldn't i just save a few quid? or get the pink one cause i like pink?" as it turns out, the answer is a resounding no!

This popcorn maker has some serious flaws which leaves me wondering if the 'engineer' who designed it even turned it on before selling it

some sort of combination of 'too shallow popping chamber' and no 'popcorn delivery spout' leaves about 50% of the kernals unpopped and on the kitchen counter or floor. In fact most of the popped kernals wound up on the floors and countertops too.

the popcorn made in any air-popper you buy is going to taste exactly the same ... make sure you get one that actually pops the kernals and gets it into the bowl ... otherwise it's just a messy waste of time and not in fact a handy, time saving, delicious & inexpensive snack making tool.

4.0 out of 5 stars mmm... popcorn...., 9 Dec 2005
This makes yummy popcorn (especially fab if you have a massive screen to watch films on at home, so you really feel like you're in the cinema), and it's far less expensive to buying microwave in a bag popcorn, which was my previous option... however like other reviewers have said has a minor tendancy to spill some pieces everywhere.

In order to take it up to five stars - here's how I would improve it:

1) make it less silly looking - you just can't leave this on your worktop (unless you have a very bright kitchen) which means that you have to store it somewhere...

2) improve the system for putting it in a bowl.

3) give us some recipe ideas for different things to put on the popcorn - there was a golden syrup one, but beyond that or salt or sugar I get stuck - anyone with any ideas?

basically - it could have been worth buying the more expensive version (that isnt bright pink and looks like it has a better funnel on it) but for an inexpensive alternative to buying shop made or microwavable popcorn its fantastic. A healthy snack (until like me you pour a load of salt and butter over it)

It's great value for money. Go for it. you know that you want to! (or you probably wouldn't be reading the reviews!)
