Album Description
Vocalist Sheena Davis is one of the UK's leading jazz vocalists and her band, the Sheena Davis Group, has become established as one of Britain's most exciting jazz ensembles. Davis first came to the attention of the jazz world as vocalists with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. Since leaving NYJO in 1998 she has impressed with her stunning vocal ability, her musicality and sheer energy, and her innate sense of swing and dynamic voice.

Davis's new CD is based around the jazz standards to which she has added three original compositions, as well as re-workings of songs associated with the modern popular songbook.

Personnel: Sheena Davis - vocals, Robert Rickenberg - bass, Tom Pilling - piano, keyboard, Stephen Rushton - drums.

Special guests: Nigel Price - guitar, Derek Nash - tenor saxophone, Steve Vintner - vibes.

I was wondering why Sheena had not been doing any gigs lately, then I heard that she had had to give up singing due to hearing loss, I can't believe that someone with so much talent has been struck down like this and I feel very sad for Sheena and her many fans. I was hoping to buy ther latest album at a gig but seeing that this will not happen now I have purchased the album 'Matchmaker' from Amazon.
I have to say that it is even better than the last two albums, Sheena has just grown in maturity and musicality over the last few years and I really love this album. You can tell that every song is loved by Sheena and is sung likewise, with real passion.

My favourite tracks have to be 'Jamie's Grin', I don't know who jamie is but it's a lively scatted track and brilliant. 'Just For A Thrill' and 'Close Your Eyes' are beautiful renditions of really great songs and I have heard Sheena sing them live a couple of times at gigs.

I also love her version of 'Sh Boom', with someone playing vibes on this track.

Actually I love the whole album and will miss Sheena's gigs very much. I only hope that something can be done for her medically speaking?

Congratulation to Sheena and her hubbie (the bass player in her band) for the birth of their first baby, I expect that singing is now that last thing on her mind!

A teriffic album and highly recommended, and probably a collectable from now on.

It's a real tragedy that this fantiastic and charming singer should be having to give up at the height of her career due to hearing loss, and it must be incredibaly hard for Sheena to not be able to do what she loves doing. This album is even better than the first two and i'm sure they would have just kept gettting better, but I doubt there will be another one now under the circumstances.
I love this album and every track on it is well thought out and performed by the band with real love for the song.

Humphrey Littleton played 'Lets Face The Music' a few week ago and announced Sheena's retirement, which was a fitting tribute to her, but not much else has been mentioned since, why?.

Some of my favourite tracks have to be 'Jamie's Grin' and 'At The Start', both originals by the band and great songs and two other songs called 'You Don't Know Me' and 'Just For A Thrill'of which I know Ray Charles has recorded, just beautifully sung and played by the band. A real treat is 'Sh Boom, Life Could Be A Dream' with a vibes player guesting on the track, a great version.

Anyway, please DO take my word for it, buy this album if you have'nt already got any of them as this is the best one in my opinion.

Thank You Sheena and the Band for all the enjoyment and pleasure you have given to us over the years and I wish you luck in all you do in the future.
PS. Do try to have a come back if you can get the hearing thing sorted out, your fans are missing you.
