Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Kodak's EasyShare line of digital cameras has long been a favorite among a wide range of consumers, as the cameras pretty universally live up to the "Easy" in their name. While somewhat more advanced than the typical EasyShare model, the new P850 offers a wide range of exposure and creative control without compromising usability. The P850 offers partial and full manual exposure modes for the more advanced consumers, but also maintains a healthy selection of automatic and preset shooting modes for novices. Plus, the P850 continues with Kodak's popular EasyShare features, including printer and camera dock compatibility, the Share menu for tagging images for printing, downloading, and emailing, as well as the Favorites mode for viewing a digital photo album. The camera's 5.0-megapixel (effective) CCD captures high resolution images, and its image-stabilized 12x optical zoom is a nice bonus as well.

Through the years, Kodak has led the way with an abundance of new products and processes that have made photography simpler, more useful and more enjoyable. Today, the company's work increasingly involves digital technology, combining the power and convenience of electronics with the quality of traditional photography to produce systems that bring levels of utility and fun to the taking, "making" and utilization of images.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great 'out-of-the-box' camera, 21 Jul 2006
By Dr. M. Williams (Edinburgh, Scotland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Just bought the P850 earlier this week and already I'm enjoying its many fine features, particularly its 12X optical zoom. I did a lot of research on sub-£250 cameras and this one rated highly. I also spoke to a professional photographer who gave his Fuji FinePix7000 to his son in exchange for this one and hasn't regretted it. The camera is easy to come to terms with right out-of-the-box and you'll be taking great photos right off the bat. Of course, you'll want to buy a 512MB SD memory card (you'll get about 260 pics on that) or a 1GB card. So far, the camera works beautifully and I'm very pleased with my purchase and with Amazon which not only offered the lowest price but got it to me within 48 hrs by Special Delivery as promised. Thanks Amazon and Kodak.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kodak P 850, 19 Jul 2006
By Mr. S. J. Morawiec "stefanmorawiec" (Dorset) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I purchased this camera for my wife. It is very good, but does the extra length of zoom and additional features warrant the extra cost over the Kodak Z740. As a family which owns both, I feel that the smaller size, lower weight and slightly smaller size of the Z740 will satisfy the "snapper", but not the more experienced and demanding photographer.

Obvious plusses for the P850 are the additonal features, great viewfinder (so much better than the Z740), larger screen and the huge zoom. I have not missed the advantage of the image stabilisation, which will be of obvious value to low light/ high zoom occasions, but the times when this is needed for the average photographer will be limited.

Disappointed with P850? Not at all. This is a really good camera, offers a lot for the money and we are not disappointed to own it. Would I buy another? Most definitely but probably to compliment our Z740, rather than replace it. Why not a 5 stars rating? Simple really, 5 stars should be for a product which is outstanding in most areas; this product is, but the use of a Kodak only proprietary battery only has to result in demoting this to very good.

Purchase this camera by all means. You will not be disappointed, but if you want a camera which offers less, is almost as good, but does not have all of the features, consider the Z740 too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad, 29 Oct 2006

I have one of these, and its pretty good, it is compact and light given its features, and has every possible facility you could ask for.

The big question you need to ask is do you need the RAW/hot shoe facility, because if you dont, then I would recommend the Kodak Z612, which is faster, lighter, and is generally more advanced (the LCD and EVF are also better), although very slightly more expensive at the moment

This P550 is a very good camera and I recommend it, I really like the interface and the joystick control is excellent, and it takes great pictures, but only buy one if you really need all the features as the Z612 is brilliant

This model has really been upstaged by the faster member of the P series the P712, so dont pay too much (certainly less than a P712)

But all in all this is another good Kodak, I am pleased with this versatile shooter.....but I prefer the Z612
