Awesome!, 24 Nov 2005
I love this single and I believe Phil Lynott would have appreciated it aswell. I don't believe he would have been quite so narrow minded as the previous reviewer. Yeah The Corrs are poppy but they are also extremely gifted musically aswell. I'm a big fan of Thin Lizzy and think that the original version of Old Town is fantastic, but this is a completly different take on the song and as such can't really be compared. The Corrs have used this song in their live shows for some time and I think it's great to see it on an album at last. The Corrs version of Heart Like A Wheel is absolutely beautiful, it really shows off the quality of Andrea Corrs voice. People have always dismissed The Corrs as mainstream pop without any real depth, but I believe that they are an exceptionally gifted bunch of musicians who deserve more credit. Sure, they're not cutting edge or pioneering, but then who is these days? They make music of an exceptionally high quality and there are plenty of people out there who will go out and purchase their records.

A 'must-have' for all Corrs fans! :), 4 Dec 2005
I just love both these songs! All four members of The Corrs are extremely talented musicians, they're simply brilliant! However, after listening to clips of the new album and reading several reviews, I have decided to just buy the single of Heart Like A Wheel/Old Town and not the album. I was a little disappointed with the album, as the songs seem to be a lot more dreary and slower than their last album, Borrowed Heaven, which was a great success. I am glad they chose to release these two songs together, as they are, without a doubt, the best tracks on the new album, Home. Congratulations to The Corrs, I've had 'Old Town' stuck in my head for two days now! It's so catchy with the funky bassline and Andrea's vocals are top notch! And if you are a pianist, you will be amazed with Jim's piano playing on 'Heart Like A Wheel,' it's so good! Well, all I can say is that if you're a Corrs fan (and you're mad not to be), then go and buy this single, you'll just love it! :)

It's burning time, 10 Nov 2005
The genetically modified 4 headed Corr beast have reached that point in their career where even they can't stomach the bilge that passes for their so-called music. Which means its time for the dreaded covers album. And tucked away on the B-side of this single is a little song written by Mr James Bain and Mr Philip Lynott called "Old Town". For those who don't recognise those names, well a good lashing from my trusty whip is in order, for Mr Bain plied his bass guitar trade in Rainbow and Dio amongst other bands, and Mr Lynott is the greatest songwriter of all time, as you should know from his regular appearances on Henry Rollins workout tape with his late, lamented combo Thin Lizzy. And no, I don't count the current version of Thin Lizzy. "Old Town" first appeared on the "Philip Lynott Album" in 1982, and was also released as a single in the UK the same year. At the time it was a plaintive lament, which saw Philip laying his emotional torment on the line with his cries of 'The romance is over, This boy is crack’in up, This boy has broken down'. But now it's a twee poppy little number with an intrusive saxophone and perky vocals from the ever so perky Corr that does the singing. This is a crime.
