Not as good as World Tour, 7 Aug 2006
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Having been a fan of both TM1 and especially World Tour (the sequel) on the original playstation i was really looking forward to this on the PSP (NB Sony's humdrum and monopolising stance towards the video games market helped me buy a gamecube so I never played Twisted Metal Black). Graphics are certainly smooth and accomplished, the intro sequence and end game anime movies are fun if a bit daft. The gameplay is somewhat affected, compared to World Tour, by the PSP handset having only 2 R buttons as opposed to four, this affects your ability to fire more than one weapon simultaneoussly, making the game harder in effect. 'Energy' weapons, crucial for combos esp for weaker cars against stronger opponents, are not as intuitively enacted in terms of button movement and hence do drag the gameplay down, The energy bar seems to deplete quicker than before also. The game should feel like streetfighter on wheels, but it does not.
Also, certain basic cars are not available at the outset (I know you can complete it to unlock but having completed it with 6 cars I still can't access Mr Slam!) and I was dissapointed with some of the level layout. Especially in the last level, there are very few places to hide which affects the type of tactics that can be used (Spectres missiles arent as good anymore either, annoying because anyone who knows how to play this game properly knew he was devasting and the 'best drive' in the right hands) other levels are vast and have such hiding places, but theres nothing as memorable as the swimming pool in TMWT New York or the volcano level. The game also isnt as challenging as before, you never have a game over situ whereby you have to start agai cos theres endless lives in this game. i suppose this is mandatory given that the game is quite hard but i dont think its got the balance quite right. 'Minion', anyone - now that was a challenge!?
A good addition to anyones PSP collection, and you can always trust TM to brighten the early days of a consoles existence, but it isnt the classic it should have been.

AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!, 23 Nov 2005
This game is one of the most stunning games to hit the PSP yet! The game boasts several wonderous features - including online play! The graphics meet the Grand theft auto standard, and the music is very catchy. As I have a wireless router, I can access the online aspect of the game and it's superb! I've had no troubles whatsoever with the connection and the graphics somehow still uphold with their potential when playing live. I did actually mean to buy this game JUST for the online play, but little did I know that the single player would be just as addictive! I did find the story mode a little short - but you still have around 15 hell-bent characters to complete it with! Once you complete it, you can play the featured mini games to unlock weapon upgrades and yet more chaotic vehicles! These mini games aren't so much of the mini type either - as I spent about 4 hours just trying to get round the first one! For those of you that don't know what the game is, it's just like WWE crush hour except 10 times better - seriously! If you love Carnage causing and gravity defying physics, You may have just found your new lifetime partner - Twisted metal: Head on!

Don't believe the negative comments, 5 Dec 2005
As for the other person who said it's hard to control the cars, I think he just needs more practice, or his psp joystick is broken. :-P Anyway, I have the USA version of this game and it's exactly the same as the UK version, except for online play using USA servers. This game is amazing, the online version will never get you bored, it's so much fun playing other people online. I agree though, the story mode is too easy to beat, but the online play makes up for this. I wish I got the UK version so I can play with people online from the UK.
