DVD Description

Riggs (Mel Gibson) is no ordinary cop. He's a Mad Max gone maniacal, a man whose killing expertise and suicidal recklessness make him a Lethal Weapon to anyone he works against, or with. Murtaugh (Danny Glover) is an easygoing homicide detective with a loving family, and a pension he doesn't want to lose. Lethal Weapon is the thrill-packed story of two Vietnam-vets-turned-cops who have just one other thing in common: both hate to work with partners.

Fierce, fast and frequently funny, the Lethal Weapon DVD Collection fires off round after round of can't-miss entertainment and is a must-have for collectors or an adrenaline-packed gift.

Synopsis

Four features. In 'Lethal Weapon' two tough Los Angeles cops, one who carries a lethal weapon (Glover) and the other who is one (Gibson), are teamed as partners in a highly unusual case involving a massive international ring which has its roots in Vietnam - a place they are both all too familiar with. This film, with its fresh, energetic combination of comedy, drama and action, has managed to spurn three highly successful sequels. Includes Lethal Weapon 2, 3 and 4.

4.0 out of 5 stars easy to watch action, 29 Nov 2005
The lethal weapon films are pretty much easy to watch action films with the odd bit of emotional right of passage stuff thrown in for good measure.

The first film is perhaps the harder to watch as it needs to set the characters and form the relationships between the two hero’s, ultimately leading to their partnership being formed and Riggs coming to terms with his wife’s death.

The second film relies on the fact that you’ve seen the first so you know who’s who and what their relation ships are as do all the following films but the stories aren’t that complex that you don’t necessarily need to have seen them it’s a basic spot the good guys spot the bad guys sorts story.

So to not spoil the films too much for anyone who hasn’t seen these ill keep the rest brief;

- The second film is sort of a revenge film; both the leads have a score to settle.

- The third shows Riggs moving on and finding new love

- And the fourth shows the duo tackling with getting older

Basically easy to watch action movies with a feel good factor.

What’s in the box? Well…

4 DVDs containing the 4 films

Not a lot of extras first 3 might have only had trailers, if that (if I remember correctly)

The first 3 films come in directors cuts but I only noticed one scene in one film that wasn’t on my original VHS, so may mainly be little stuff. The fourth is on a double sided disc, 1 side film 1 side extras. These are extras for that film.

So if you’ve seen them your probably here to buy or to buy if the price is right. If you haven’t I’m surprised you haven’t. It might have been nice for an extras disc with some retrospect interviews, behind the scenes stuff for the 4 and a gag reel or something like that for the collectors amongst us.

4.0 out of 5 stars First two brilliant, other two are not..., 11 Jun 2007
By Jay "The Amazon Reviewer" (Mauritius) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This special edition box set with all the Lethal Weapons is an impressive package with some good extra material.
The first of the Weapon films is still the best, with Mel Gibson as the suicidal cop Martin Riggs paired up with Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) as his reluctant partner. The action is great, and while it does tend to get carried away sometimes (not helped By Richard Donner's frenetic pacing), it's still the most fun of the franchise, and one of the best action films of the 80's.
Mel is great in one of his first major film roles, and Glover works well with Gibson. Director Donner, who gave us Superman (1978), directed all the Weapon films, but this one is the undisputed finest. Action at it's most outrageous.

The second installment is not quite as good as the first, but its still exciting frenetic fun, with some witty humour. Mel Gibson and Danny Glover are the partner- in -crime duo again, and this one sees Riggs and Murtaugh joined by Joe Pesci as Leo Getz, the annoying cop who returns in parts 3 and 4. The action is as impressive as the former one, and director Richard Donner's hard- as-nails approach to the film makes it as exhilarating as it's predecessor.

Lethal Weapon 3 and 4 are the weakest of the franchise, yet still retain soome of the cool action present in the first 2 films, with Gibson and Glover doing a "take the money and run" deal. The action is good, and in Lethal Weapon 4, Jet Li as the bad guy ups the hard-edged approach. However, the last two films aren't as much fun. The extras are good, if not great, with trailers, Featurettes, Behind-the-scenes Footage an Audio Commentary and some additional Footage.

5.0 out of 5 stars ESSENTIAL FOR ANY COLLECTION, 19 Sep 2007
If you haven't seen the Lethal Weapon series, WHY?

Good mix of humour throughout, coupled with plenty of action. Mel Gibson and Danny Glover have that special chemistry that sorely lacks in other actor duos.

Drop everthing and buy them.
