5.0 out of 5 stars GARCIA/DYLAN what more do you want?, 31 Jul 2006
If you like Garcia and you like Dylan you will love this album. The album has Garcia playing in many different line-ups from playing with Merle Saunders through the Jerry Garcia Band to The Grateful Dead. Garcia not being a "pop" singer has the right voice for these songs which are taken from right across the Dylan songbook and are tastefully played to perfection. I rate this album right up there with the "greats". Buy it and I would be surprised if you were not as happy as I am. Don't forget that the Dead backed Dylan for a while and Jerry and Bob got to know each other quite well, so who better to sing his songs?

5.0 out of 5 stars Garcia paints a masterpiece, 4 Mar 2008
When Jerry Garcia died, Bob Dylan said of him, "he was more like a big brother who taught and showed me more than he'll ever know". This album of Garcia playing Dylan demonstrates why Dylan said that. The playing is superb throughout (I've got the version with the bonus disc, and that's a lovely little extra) and it makes me wonder why the outcome of the tour that Grateful Dead carried out backing Dylan was a pathetic album entitled (unimaginatively) Dylan & The Dead. This is so different from Dylan & The Dead. It's vibrant, full of soul, powerful, perfectly executed and, well, awesome.

The track list includes some of Dylan's best songs and this compilation contains one of my particular favourites, "Señor (Tales of Yankee Power)". The majority of the tracks are performed by the Jerry Garcia Band, and Jerry often appeared to enjoy playing with the JGB more than the Dead towards the end of his life. This is evident from the intense emotional depth that imbues his playing throughout the JGB tracks. Dylan thought highly of Garcia, and the feeling was clearly reciprocated in the handling of Dylan's songs on this album.

Please buy it.
