A worthy salute to the maiden!!, 19 Jan 2006
As far as tribute albums goes the usual tendency is is at least 1 or 2 worthwhile songs followed on with a pile of crap! Not in this case;Run to the Hills - Excellent version to open any maiden tribute with, both the music and McCauley's vocals breathe new life into this classic!! 10/10 Wasted Years - Superb version, Snider sounds like he's having a great time covering this classic!! 10/10 Wrathchild - Di'anno returns to pay tribute to his former collegues, worthy of any decent maiden tribute! 10/10 Flight of Icarus - Wow!! Owens rips into this one with a serious passion!! 10/10 Fear of the Dark - Definitely this albums weak spot, the music is spot on, however the vocals seriously let it down, this song should be sang not growled 5/10 The Trooper - This monster makes up for the dissapointment of the latter, Lemmy & co's version of this will blow you away!! 10/10 Aces High - a worthy cover with some excellent musicianship and vocals 8/10 2 Minutes to Midnight - I personally have never been a Joe Lynn Turner fan, however he does justice to this excellent version of an old fav 9/10 Can I Play With Madness - At first I thought Mark Slaughter was a strange choice to appear on any maiden tribute, but he does himself proud on this rocker!! 9/10 The Evil That Men Do - Don't really know who Chris Jericho is, but his vocal range sounds excellent on this 10/10 The Wickerman - This a definite case of saving the best til last, this particular version combined with John Bush's vocals is in my own view even better than the original!! 10/10 So there you have it, the wait is over for a worthy tribute to maiden, was it worth the wait? Absolutely!!!
