Amazon.co.uk Review

Offering all ten Star Trek movies to date in one complete set, this particular collection is a terrific guided tour through the highs and lows of one of the world’s most enduring and important science fiction franchises. The highlights and lowlights are, as folklore correctly dictates, generally determined by whether the movie in question is odd or even numbered. Certainly adventures 1, 3, 5 and 7 are on the weaker side, although this reviewer does profess a soft spot for the ninth film in the series, Insurrection. But the even numbered entries in the series, with the possible exception of the last--Star Trek: Nemesis--have offered some terrific big screen science fiction over the past decades.

If there’s a highlight, then Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan is generally regarding as good as the best the cinematic franchise got, although the humour-laced Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home is also great fun. The original cast bow out with the similarly strong Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, while the Next Generation crew had taken over come the terrific, action-packed Borg-fight in Star Trek: First Contact.

Certainly, the movies of Star Trek have seen their off days, but there’s enough sci-fi entertainment in this excellent set to easily warrant its asking price. --Jon Foster

5.0 out of 5 stars Ultimate 20 disc set, 14 Jan 2006

This package is great. All 10 Star Trek movies are in very well designed ultrathin cases (each movie has it's own plastic box with artwork) and all housed within an attractive and sturdy outer box.

This is THE Star Trek boxed set to own - ignore the previous movie sets on DVD which didn't feature all the films, were missing extras and didn't have special edition anamorphic widescreen versions.

All films are presented in anamorphic widescreen with 5.1 surround and each of the 10 has a bonus extras disc - making this set 20 discs in all. Great value!

4.0 out of 5 stars A logical choice...., 28 Aug 2006
By Rod H (England) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Star Trek - The Film Collection [DVD] [1979] (DVD)
For those who don't already own the individual special editions of the 'Trek' films, this box set is the logical way to buy them. Each of the 10 films is a double disc edition, nicely packaged in individual slimline cases, in a sturdy box.
What a pity there is no booklet included to make this set that bit more 'special'. There is no information on any of the film cases stating the contents of the special features disc for each film. The only way to know is to load the disc into your machine and find the menu...
Otherwise, this is a great addition to the collection of anyone interested in Star Trek or bigscreen sci-fi. Each film is presented in widescreen format with good quality picture and sound. The films are as good ( or bad) as you remember them, and the price of the set is a bargain when you consider that there are 20 discs in all. This is the definitive collection of Trek films....

5.0 out of 5 stars A Trekkies' favourite toy, 8 April 2007
By Mr. A. N. Mijatovic (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Star Trek - The Film Collection [DVD] [1979] (DVD)
I had always wanted the entire collection of Star Trek films but saw no way to get them short of purchasing each one seperately. Then along came the full boxset.
The price is just right when you think about how much you get and how much it costs on rival DVD websites. Well worth getting it on Amazon.
The only grumble was the wait (about a month and a bit in the end), but this was only because of supply problems.
the boxset is very stylish and has a satisfying sterdiness to it. All the individual disks are well designed and slimline, clearly numbered and marked 'collectors edition'. the DVD extras are detailed and interesting.
All in all; a good buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the money for sure
Ten movies plus extras, you would think it would cost more, wouldn't you? In some places I've seen it priced at up to £200+, here it was just £50, that was with p&p added. Read more
