4.0 out of 5 stars Great player once ethernet is unlocked, 6 Aug 2006
By David C (Warwickshire, UK) - See all my reviews
My brother has one of these but I've set it up and used it and not had a problem with any of the files I have played. I'll be ordering one myself as soon.

Just a quick note to answer one of the above reviewers problem with uploading over ethernet. It can be done and just needs the latest firmware from Freecom and then an email to their support (supportuk@freecom.com)with the MAC address of the unit.

They'll email you a code to unlock the NDAS functionality.

There's a step by step for this upgrade on www.avforums.com if you do a search for mediaplayer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good unit but....., 19 April 2006
By Mr. P. Naylor (uk) - See all my reviews

Hi everyone. I brought one of these from amazon. No problems with there service at all. The unit does have one problem. You cant upload files to it over the network rj45 socket. You have to copy files to the hard drive through the USB. So you have to keep digging your usb cable out. It does have the ability to stream music and video files from a pcs hard drive over the lan.

Other than that, no problems at all , no audio sync problems

4.0 out of 5 stars Great video player, 7 Oct 2006
By A. F. Mell (Edinburgh, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Bought one of these recently for playing back video from my media server. Works well, plays back more formats than my KiSS DP1000 - I haven't found much it won't play.

Plus points
* Easy to set up on the network
* Understands most video I've come across ( mainly AVI/Divx/DVD)
* Easy to fit a hard-drive if you want to (PATA only)
* Recovers from failures well (unlike the Kiss player)
* Good sound quality via the optical out
* Picture looks good - I can't tell the different between DVDs played from this and from my DVD player

Minus points
* menu system is quite clunky & basic - I wouldn't recommend this for any reasonable sized music collection.
* remote is a bit small & fiddly
