First saw Kendall Payne as a warm up for Delerious? in Liverpool Academy 2005, I was completely unaware of the shear talent this lady had when she arrived upon the stage with only a stool to sit upon and a acoustic guitar. I was blown away with her fantastic voice, dry wit and excellent music. A must for any person who has two ears and a brain!

It's been a long time between Kendall Payne's debut album "Jordan's Sister' and "Grown" but this period has served to mature her music, both vocally and lyrically. She's an excellent folk/pop singer-writer with a wonderful voice and some nice orchestration backing her up. My favourite tracks include the very poppy "Rollercoaster" and the slightly slower paced, gentle melody of "Ups and Downs."

My only criticism would be that, like "Jordan's Sister," this album still feels a little too safe. Having never seen her live I can't comment on her acoustic performance, but the album tracks all lack the raw passion of say, Thea Gilmore or Dar Williams. Still, what it sometimes lacks in energy it makes up for in beauty - Kendall has a wonderful voice and I recommend this album highly.

I first heard Kendall live and, well, it's hard to describe. She is such a talented woman, and sings with incredible passion...i certainly went away with her songs in my head, feeling better about life. Whatever type of music you're into, it would be hard not to like her singing :)
