Once again, UK customers are ripped off, 27 Sep 2005
If you're reading this, you'll probably know what the show is all about - if you don't, where have you been? In a black hole? The general premise of the show is that 48 or so people (although a select few feature more heavily than others) become trapped on an as yet unknown island when their plane mysteriously runs into trouble and crashes. The survivors must band together if they want to survive long enough to be rescued, or at least to figure out where they are and what is going on. It is something like a cross between one of those (terrible) reality game shows and Lord of the Flies, although it is interesting and entertaining in it's own right as there is a story behind each of the characters, which I am led to believe is building up to something big. It's one of the best shows to appear on televison for a while, featuring superb acting and impressive visuals and a story that should keep you hungry for more. To date, I am around 10 episodes in and enjoying it immensely, so much so that I was hoping to invest in the box set when released, to catch bits I didn't get the first time round and to see some of the extras that haven't make it to the final cut, to pad the story out more. When I heard that the UK set was being released in 2 parts, at a cost of 25 quid each (more in shops), I was far from happy. My friend recently ordered and received a region 1 set, which contains all 24 episodes plus a wealth of extra features for £30, and if you shop around you can probably get it for less. 5 stars for the show, nothing for this below-the-belt boxset. Do yourself a favour, if you want this, buy the region 1 version, and enjoy watching the show all the more thinking about the money you've saved. "The customer is always right."
