Product Description

Product Description

Soulwax always seem to take two steps ahead on the music scene and their new album Nite Version is no exception to this statement. Nite Version contains some tracks that may sound familiar to clubbers. The Nite Version of "E-Talking" (one of the biggest club hits of 2004) and the kawasaki dub of "NY Lipps" stand among new tracks such as "Another Excuse" (A Collaboration with DFA) and their cover of Daft Punk’s "Teachers". From Electro to Techo, from bombastic rock to disco, this record guarantees to keep you moving. The Album is mixed by de Dewaele Brothers (Soulwax/2 many DJ's).

CD Description

Belgian techno/rock hybridists Soulwax have won wide acclaim for their hard-hitting, club-friendly style of dance punk.NITE VERSION presents re-cooked and reinterpreted versions of tracks that originally appeared on their album ANY MINUTENOW. The collection is a high-energy mix of guitar riffs and samples; creatively borrowing from just about everything, including the disco group Lipps Inc. and early rave anthems.A rambunctious journey through clubland delirium, NITE VERSIONS has its 133 BPM pulse firmly planted in dance music's past and future.

3.0 out of 5 stars I hear that you and your band have sold your guitars..., 26 Jan 2006
...and bought turntables.

I love Soulwax and am enjoying following them as they continue to mutate and try and cross-pollinate their riffy rocky stuff with their clubby tastes.

But although this worked well on the album Any Minute Now here it is a bit more hit and miss. The fun/problem with Soulwax when they go electronic is figuring out where they are coming from. Are the often quite simple/basic sounds they use the result of diving deep into electronica, getting bored of a lot of it and therefore deciding on something chunky and simple? Or is it just that they haven't got very far in the first place?

Listening to some of the music they mix in their 2manydjs guise you would assume the former. But looking at the music they have created themselves up till now maybe you would tend to the latter. And it does matter. Because guitar bands trying to do electronic stuff often sounds exactly like that - the wrong people in the wrong medium. The result is often tedious to listen to. Too much of this remix album strays into that territory.

But where they get it right there is some really interesting stuff. The tracks I would highlight are Slowdance, I love Techno and Krack. These keep the spirit of the original songs but give them a good electronic work over. Also the LCD remix of NY Excuse is class.

Worth a punt if you're a fan, and worth getting hold of the best tracks if you're not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seriously funked up..., 13 Dec 2005
Soulwax a.k.a 2 many DJ’s, that confusing posse who are not quite a band, not quite DJ’s (they are in fact both) have done it again. Ever since seeing them play one of the dirtiest funkiest electro sets I’ve ever heard, and successfully turn Cardiff Union into a sweaty grimy dance haven, I’ve been on a Soulwax mega-mission, hunting down tracks left right and centre. You may have been disappointed with ‘Any Minute Now’ released in August of last year as a follow up to their huge success ‘As Heard on Radio Soulwax’, but this re-released, re-cut, re-mashed, and re-energised album, aptly named ‘Nite Versions’ will definitely re-work them back in to your good books.

‘Nite Versions’ is a masterful compilation of their characteristic electro-techno sounds boiled up with some proper good electric guitar and some seriously phat bass lines. Like a cross between Tiga and Duran Duran, these tracks harness some momentously deep galvanisation of the dance variety. Twisting through palisades of the dance music genres, this compilation is a representation of all things we love about Soulwax and more.‘Nite Versions’ reads like a juicy novel, from the re-blended version of Daft Punks ‘Teachers’ to the reminiscent cut of their house smash NY Excuse caressing its way through NY Lipps then gently coaxing its way through the final track, ‘Another Excuse’.

For all the house and breaks, electro, and techno fans out there (and everyone else besides) i seriously recommend this album!
