Amazon.co.uk Review
Released amidst rumors of romance between costars Angelina Jolie and soon-to-be-divorced Brad Pitt, Mr. and Mrs. Smith offers automatic weapons and high explosives as the cure for marital boredom. The premise of this exhausting action-comedy (no relation to the 1941 Alfred Hitchcock comedy starring Carole Lombard and Robert Montgomery) is that the unhappily married Smiths (Pitt and Jolie) will improve their relationship once they discover their mutually-hidden identities as world-class assassins, but things get complicated when their secret-agency bosses order them to rub each other out. There's plenty of amusing banter in the otherwise disposable screenplay by Simon Kinberg, and director Doug Liman gives Pitt and Jolie a slick, glossy superstar showcase that's innocuous but certainly never boring. It could've been better, but as an action-packed summer confection, Mr. and Mrs. Smith kills two hours in high style. --Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com

Synopsis
Named after a 1941 Alfred Hitchcock film, MR. AND MRS. SMITH is really its own ball of flaming wax, with enough sizzling chemistry between stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt to blow up a small building. He shows he is equally adept in comedy and action, and she manages to set new screen standards of bad-ass sexiness. It's impossible to dislike this pair, or a movie that makes being married seem like such insane fun. Pitt and Jolie play extremely skilled professional assassins who have managed to stay married for five years without ever realising each other's profession because they work for rival agencies and the work is top secret. When their paths eventually cross on a high-level hit, one of the most lethal battles of the sexes in the history of cinema is officially on. Thanks to a genuinely witty script, the issue isn't who will win, but whether the couple will realise they are meant for each other before it's too late. Director Doug Liman was obviously the right choice for the material, having proved his ability to fuse engaging romance with knuckle-biting action in 2002's THE BOURNE IDENTITY. The comedy is sophisticated and witty, the action is visceral and intense, and there is plenty of satisfying eye candy. Another plus is Vince Vaughn as a fast-talking fellow hit man who lives with his mother. The cinematography is by Bozan Bajelli (the genius behind Abel Ferrara's best mid-1980s work) who imbues each environment, whether it's the Smith's house, or the urban streets - with its own evocative colour scheme and feel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mr&Mrs Smith - Anything but ordinary, 23 Sep 2005

This film is designed to be a glossy action romp spliced with comedy along the way. Its pure enjoyable entertainment. So its not going to win any oscars or have you scratching your head over the plot but if thats what you want you already know you shouldn't be here! This films fulfills its premise very well and is one of the best slick action films i have seen for a while, the only other film with this level of smooth production was the very enjoyable and highly entertaining Oceans 11. Now this doesnt have a plot with twists but its serves it purpose well and is perfect to watch when you want a fun enjoyable film to use a couple of hours. Very good action/comedy with two of the most indescently attractive people on the planet!

5.0 out of 5 stars "I missed you today, honey!", 4 Oct 2005

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie star in this fast-paced comedy/action film. John and Jane Smith are seeking marriage counseling because they seem to have nothing in common. Neither knows the other is a spy/assassin until their respective agencies assign them to kill each other.

There are enough explosions, car crashes, high-tech gadgets, and shoot-outs to satisfy hard-core action fans, and the sly banter and undeniable chemistry between the stars will please romance/comedy fans. Jolie is so beautiful and sassy that you just cannot take your eyes off her. She handles casserole dishes and automatic weapons with equal ease, and looks terrific the whole time. Pitt is also delicious eye-candy; they make a beautiful couple.

The film is too long, but it's a well-made and clever movie that is sure to delight Brad and Angelina's fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Please, give it a chance, 7 Sep 2007

Personally, i think all you people who think this is a bad film because of the acting and script, have been watching too much Hitchcock.
It is true, the acting and script aren't perfect, but the chemistry between the two leads, the actors, the special effects and a great plot should make you want to run toward this movie. I love it. I think lots of other people love, or really like it too.
