This device supports Full-rate G.dmt, which gives you download speeds of 12Mbps and upload speeds of 896Kbps

This has got to be the lowest priced ADSL2+ router on the market, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work like it ought to. I bought it to replace a Safecom 1-port router and a D-Link hub (used to connect two computers to the Net), which would free up a mains socket. Unfortunately it wasn't all plain sailing getting it from A to B... It took six or so weeks to get it (I ordered during Christmas, and on two occasions I didn't have enough money).

The first thing that struck me was the contained information; it was mostly in some European language. No problem, though, because the English versions are available as PDFs from the SMC web site. Better still, the enclosed CDROM contains the English manual (and nothing else).

Secondly, contrary to the manual's claims, it wasn't a plug and play affair at all (although it could just be my experience). The first few times it wouldn't connect to the Internet, and also froze the other router out for at least six hours. After a lot of research and settings tweaking, the solution was to specify the primary and secondary DNS servers for my ISP (UK Online).

Neither the manual nor the SMC web site provided much help on this front, which is why I've given this router a 4 out of 5. If I hadn't got it working by sheer luck, I would have sent it back.
