3.0 out of 5 stars Should have gone to Specsavers, 15 Oct 2005
By L. Moore "Mooresby" (Reading, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought FIFA 06 yesterday to alleviate the boredom of my daily train commute into London. On the plus side, I can't say that theres obviously a huge difference in terms of of the graphics or playability fom the PS2 version. Lets face it, we all know what we're going to get with a new version of FIFA - its going to look great but probably have 1 or 2 areas which leave room for improvement. Having bought 06 for the PS2 & been reasonably happy with it I felt that buying the PSP version would be a pretty safe option for a quick fix of commuting footie. One of the good things is that if you've had enough playing you can go to the track listing and just listen to full length versions of the audio tracks on the game, including Doves & Oasis, which is pretty cool.
The one major drawback is that I have real difficulty in actually seeing the ball. OK - i'm 36, perhaps my eyesight isn't quite as great as it used to be, but on my last visit, the optician told me I had perfect 20-20 vision! The fact is that the ball is very small, and also very yellow - a combination which creates "challanges" from time to time during gameplay and which ultimately lets the game down. I can't say particularly that this is a FIFA problem or just a PSP footie game problem, but it is a bit of a pain.
Perhaps it's time for my eyes to be tested again....!

4.0 out of 5 stars Suprisingly Good!, 5 Dec 2005
By A Clark (London, UK) - See all my reviews
In my heart of hearts I am a Pro Evo man. I have tried the old Fifa 94 & bought Fifa 2004, only to be disgusted with the total lack of gameplay. The most important aspect of a footy console game!! I bought Pro Evo 5 on Xbox & think that it reigns supreme on the big screen. Yet, I've just got Fifa 2006 on PSP & rather suprisingly found it a very enjoyable experience. Dare I say, better than Pro Evo on PSP, of which I also own. Gameplay is good, graphics adeqaute, commentary fantastic & its always a delight to have proper names, teams & shirts from leagues ranging from English Championship to Brazilian 1st Div. With the juggling game pretty addictive, I'd recommend Fifa 2006 to any portable gamer. Just don't get carried away & dump your Pro Evo 5 just yet on PS2 or Xbox - that is the daddy of football games!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than I thought it would be, 19 Oct 2005
By C. Hughes "cwidifa" (London, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
After seeing the only other footy effort so far on the PSP,World Tour Soccer, with it's dodgy gameplay, and aching to get my hands on a decent PSP football game,I thought I'd give this a try - this despite my allegiance to the God of football games,Pro Evolution Soccer.
It turned out better than I thought it would - the gameplay is intuitive and feels right, although shooting is a bit off key. There is much reliance on the 'one touch' control which works well if you use it right. Attacking can be difficult,as the defences seem to work very well, and breaking away from a defender is very difficult.
Commentary is very good, and obviously, all the licences are here. The graphics are fairly good, but figures at the far side of the pitch seem particularly small despite maxing out on the camera zoom.
Overall,it's a fairly good purchase if you want a football game now for the PSP,but really I'd recommend this as a teaser before the mighty Pro Evo enters the PSP stage in November - if it plays and looks like the PS2 version, then it will definitely rule the roost!
