This a fine disc. Hanson's best known symphony No 2 "Romantic" is given a deeply felt performance by Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. I know Hanson's music quite well but the wonderful "Bold Island Suite" was a new discovery and I have never seen it on any other Hanson disc (actually, I have just noticed that it is a "World Premiere Recording"). It is a thoroughly characteristic piece, with three movements: "Birds of the Sea", "Summer Seascape" and "God in Nature", the whole thing lasting about 25 minutes. I am surprised that it has not been recorded before now as it is a most life-affirming and eloquent piece, very much in the spirit of the Romantic Symphony. A fanfare and the likeable Suite from Merry Mount, complete a most desirable disc and a must for all Hanson fans.

I could have sworn I read the info on this cd on this site..
Anyway.. anyone looking for the end credit music from Alien.. not Aliens.. this IS it.. I must have read on a different site.
Romantic Symphony number 2.. is where Ridley Scott found his music used on the film. He wasny happy with what was written for him.Track 9 is the track..bear with it.. and 9 mins 50 in.. there it goes.. to the end..12-11.. the theme drifts in and out of the other tracks.. but.. this is definate. One of the best pieces of music every written as far as I`m concerned. HOW did Ridley know..Hanson was still alive when the film came out.. yes, it works. Sends me every time.
