Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Protect America from enemy forces in urban and rural warfare throughout the world in SOCOM 3: U.S. NAVY SEALs, exclusively for the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system. SOCOM 3 builds on the strengths of the multimillion-selling franchise to firmly establish both single-player and multiplayer as equally outstanding game experiences. Created in association with the U.S. Naval Warfare, SOCOM 3 is as close as you can get to being a Navy SEAL on PlayStation 2.

Explore three new Areas of Operation (AO): Morocco, Poland, and Bangladesh. Streaming environment technology allows gameplay maps to be five to six times larger than in SOCOM II: U.S. NAVY SEALs. In addition, multiple save points eliminate having to replay a failed mission from the beginning, allowing for seamless progression through the plotline.

For the first time in the SOCOM series, land and water vehicles play a central role in the gameplay experience. Vehicles are drivable by both players and AI and cover a range of military and civilian vehicles including tactical turret-equipped pickups and the SEAL-team configured military Humvee and SOC-R Assault Boat.

The innovative new weapon customization system in SOCOM 3 allows players to use more than 30 different weapons and attachments, resulting in nearly1,000 different weapon combinations. The new Team Command Actions (TCA) allows you to quickly give your teammates context sensitive commands such as move to, breach, and more, simply by pointing at the location and pressing a single button. Combined with more complex team and enemy AI behavior, SOCOM 3 presents a fully immersive and more intense tactical experience than ever before.

Key features

  • New areas of operation: Morocco, Poland, and Bangladesh, are designed with detailed plots and varied mission destinations.
  • Land and water vehicles, drivable by both players and AI characters bring new tactics to the SOCOM franchise.
  • Using 31 authentic weapons and 21 compatible attachments on multiple hard points, players have nearly 1,000 different weapon combinations for customized combat execution.
  • New team command actions let the player direct the fireteam quickly with a single button press.
  • Complex AI behaviour makes use of cover positions, blind firing, and fallback behaviour to better simulate urban combat. Leader AI provides rallying behaviour and coordinated chain-of-command scenarios.
  • Swimming and water combat play a tactical role in SOCOM 3. Use water for cover or pilot strike boats for waterborne assaults.
  • Streaming environment technology enables gameplay maps five to six times the size than in SOCOM II . Larger maps provide much more varied and rich gameplay experiences.
  • Multiple paths to mission resolution bring replay value and variety to the single-player experience.
  • New technology brings advanced particle and graphic effects for more realistic weaponry, environments, and equipment.
  • Association with Naval Special Warfare Command ensures authentic and realistic SEAL gameplay and mission designs.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, 21 Oct 2005
    By A Customer
This game is by far the best online tactical shooter. Having played the american version and the beta test, I can tell you it is a lot better than socom 2. however, the US version had quite a few glitches a errors, but hopefully they will be sorted by the time it comes out here. The maps a massive, and the lag almost non-existant - it does actually take 5 bullets to kill people, unlike the 2 clips in socom 2. The vehilces are fun, but if you don't like them you can turn them off. Single player has a checkpoint system, and it is more fun than the socom 2 one. Sniping is fun as you can silence a sniper rifle, but it will make the gun heavy so you walk slowly, which is really realistic.
I strongly advise anyone with an online PS2 to get this brilliant game.

    4.0 out of 5 stars socom 3 us navy seals , 30 May 2006
    Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Previous Socom's have been rated well and all lived up to the hype. However despite this i have never purchased one of them. But i decided to give this one a go and you know what it was a good choice. The graphics are awesome as is the gameplay. It also has a trainee mission to help you get familiar with the original and new controls and commands you can issue. The different missions in it offer a complex and enjoyable lifespan of the game for example i played the game for 5 hours straight and didn't get bored one bit. If you liked previous socoms or medal of honours or even mercenaries at least give it a go! 8/10

4.0 out of 5 stars Online Gaming, 13 Oct 2006

    Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I brought Socom 2 18 months after it was released, and found the game deeping engrossing. I then brought a network adaptor 3 months later because i was interested in what the online play would be like. I can tell you now i was not disapointed!
A few months later Socom 3 was released, i and many others had much antiscipated the release. The single player is great, there is much variety in the missions (from all out fire-fights to stealthy insertions), new weapons and the use of vehicles. I spent about a month playing the single player before i completed the game.
But as you can tell from the title, i brought the game for the online play and community. Everyone was welcomed by overhauled graphics and gameplay. However, i do think zipper and sony rushed the release, or cirtainly didnt fully test the game. Although they have reduced cheating there are still many problems with the online play. The main one being the quality of the servers and lag; if you want quality play go for an xbox 360, but if you want community spirit, fun and hours of endless gameplay go for the (free online) PS2. I have met some great people online, made some life friends and even been paintballing with some of them.
Socom is my far the best online game, forget hardware or battlefield buy this game.

2.0 out of 5 stars surprised to see so many positive reviews
I did not find anything special about this game- assignments lack challenge and plot- imagination and suspense. Call of Duty, for example, is more fun by a mile.
