This box does not contain an activation code -- customers are required to submit satisfactory proof of their student or teacher status to Macromedia in order to install Studio 8.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you qualify before purchasing this product. Once opened, it is non-returnable, non-refundable in accordance with Amazon.co.uk's returns policy

Qualification criteria:

Students must be enrolled, full time, in a degree-granting program at an acceptable Education Institution (being a bona fide university or college -- including community, junior and vocational colleges or other further education colleges -- that grants degrees requiring not less than the equivalent of two (2) years of full time study).

Teachers must be full time faculty, staff or employees at an acceptable Education Institution.

Studio 8 Education licenses are limited to one per customer. This license may only be used for non-commercial purposes on a privately-owned computer.

The adobe site says the following are eligible to purchase this package:

Qualified Individuals: Qualified end-users include full or part time students enrolled at accredited Higher Education Establishments, full or part time faculty and staff employed at accredited Education Establishments and students enrolled at an accredited primary or secondary school providing full-time instruction.

This means that part-time students can also buy this product (not just full-time as given on the Amazon site)

Dreamweaver has always been a fantastic product and Studio 8 takes it even further.

I have so far only used the Dreamweaver and Fireworks parts of the package but my dabbles with Flash show that to be a good program too.

Dreamweaver 8 has improved it's CSS functionality and made subtle changes to it's layout since MX2004. The sheer power of DW needn't worry you as it includes tutorials and it's community section of it's website has lots of support, after these tutorials you'll be flying through tasks including php and database set-up's - or even before if you're particularly quick or have used DW before. DW allows you to work directly with the code, in a WYSIWYG format or a combination of the two so even if you don't know loads of code you can still get a lot from it. I have used freeware products before such as nvu or a combination of Filezilla and an editor but it is definately worth paying a bit for DW for better ease-of-use, especially at the incredibly low student price - roughly a tenth of the usual price! I don't know if MX2004 includes tag auto-completion too but it is definately a handy tool for speeding up coding - though it might be forming lazy/bad habits in me!

I had initially bought Studio solely for Dreamweaver but have found Fireworks to be a fantastic artwork tool. Again the tutorials for this are very clear and useful, particularly if you are new to layered design packages. So far I have been able to do any task I have attempted with it with ease, including simple drawings, photo editing, web graphics and file-type conversions.

So in summary if you are considering webdesign, you could use free programs but in my experience there will always be annoying limitations or bugs and compared to the usual asking price for Studio of £725 this is an absolute bargain - I'm very glad I found this before I graduate!

...And no wonder why. Studio 8 incorporates fantastic graphic, animation and web deisgn software at an easily affordable price. You get the benefits of the full versions of the latest macromedia software Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Flash Professional along with flash paper and contribute. Unlike most web design products the easy to use interface gives you complete control of your work without constant hassle. I highly reccomend this software to anyone interested in web developemtn, image editing or animation.
