3.0 out of 5 stars A GOOD BIGFOOT MOVIE, 6 Aug 2007

Much to my surprise, Jim McCullough's "Creature From Black Lake" turned out to be quite the opposite of everything I had expected. As a matter of fact, I can even recall thinking midway through....."gee, when's this supposed to get bad?". Well it never did and anyone who's a fan of films like "The Legend of Boggy Creek" will surely appreciate this one.

The story is simple: Two college students (Pahoo & Rives) travel down south to investigate the existence of a sasquatch, or as the locals refer to it..."The Creature". While most of the townspeople refuse to talk about the subject, they do encounter a few willing participants who tell of their Bigfoot stories. Eventually they hook up with a couple of sweeties, one who happens to be the sheriffs daughter(surprise, surprise) and meet up one night for a little make-out session, only to be interrupted by one very hairy and uninvited guest...bet you'll never guess who. Ultimately, the friends have to face off against this mysterious creature in the fight of their lives.

What I found most impressive, was the directors success in creating a very high level of tension and suspense when the creature is lurking near by. Also, the grainy picture quality is pretty effective, much like "The Texas Chain Saw Masacre" was. Aside from the suspense, there's also a lot of charming moments. The two lead characters are very likable with their somewhat innocent qualities, and some of the other characters were pretty fun to watch as well.

1.0 out of 5 stars You will want 90 minutes of your life back, 3 Dec 2006

The transfer is awful. Muddy, fuzzy and lacking green tones. The story is talky and drawn out, with one character's aversion to chicken mentioned ad nauseum as is his preference for hamburgers. When you see the "creature" it's only for a moment and because of the quality you don't see much. It's always a worry when the same person's name crops up about 15 times in the credits. Don't watch this film. No, really. Don't.
