4.0 out of 5 stars I don't agree entirely with magazine reviews!, 2 Mar 2006
In Tycoon City, the aim is to build up the biggest business empire you possibly can. You have to build a huge range of shops, services & houses to cater for the ever-growing population as the city grows and evolves (towards the end of the game, the city can be filled with upto 60,000 individual New Yorkers!)

You may have read some magazine reviews saying that the game is too easy and that there isn't enough 'micro management' with your businesses, but I feel that you should take into consideration what the game is trying to achive- It's trying to convey the scale of a city like New York, and it's letting you build it from the ground up. It's true that once you have built your coffee bar, for example, you can't change the prices. But in a game of this magnitude, it simply isn't required. I'm still on the first 'level' (Greenwich Village) and already I have around 60 stores. It simply wouldn't be possible once all the other districts have been opened to go around and manually change all the prices of every store you own. The way Deep Red have gone about the management of your businesses is spot on. I suppose the main aim of the game is simply to build the city from the ground up, rather than micro manage hundereds of shops.

I recommend this game to anyone who is interested in the genre. I'm a huge fan of the genre and don't feel for one minute that that the game is missing something. Sure, it's almost impossible not to make a profit, but it's just a satisfying experience building New York from the ground up.

Certainly worth a purchase in my opinion- just for the sheer scale and gorgeous visuals, let alone the engrossing gameplay.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice and Easy for all ages, 10 April 2006
If you like a challenge then this game isn't for you. I however, like a nice relaxing game that ticks along without having to keep an eye on everything. The one thing I find is that it's too easy to make money and profits run in to millions. I would like to have to work a little bit. The best thing about the game is getting to build all the famous landmarks. My son of 9 years loves it and so do I at 41 years so it is to be shared with the family. Have fun all.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good idea, but needs improvement, 20 Mar 2006
By A Customer
This is a good game. The overall idea of what the game entails is good, however, the control needs iumprovement. I have found it difficult to navigate my way around the various streets using either mouse or keyboard. Also, sometimes the game can seem a little repetative, as you don't really manage the stores you create, you just pretty much build them. I am a huge fan of games like these but I just think they really could have done better with this. I am hoping that there will be a few add ons in the future to liven it up a bit. Overall it isn't a bad game, but it isn't a great one either, which it really had the potential to be.
