Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

It has taken former butcher Andy Bell twenty years to get around to presenting a solo statement on electronic dance-pop. Of course he’s been a tad busy selling over fourteen million records alongside Erasure partner Vince Clarke, but finally he has found time to bring us fourteen personal tracks collectively called Electric Blue. Co-written and recorded with Manhattan Clique (aka Philip Larsen & Chris Smith of Erasure, Moby, The B-52’s, Stereophonics and Goldfrapp fame) the album features duets with Claudia Brucken (Propaganda and Act) and Jake Shears (Scissor Sisters) and embraces a surprising range of sounds. The expected camp-house anthems ("Caught In A Spin", lead single "Crazy") are contrasted by grittier material like the futuristic title track and "I'll Never Fall In Love Again", and periodically punctuated by romantic ballads such as "Runaway" and "Fantasy". A pop-tastic take on dance music from one of the scene’s true veterans.--Paul Sullivan

Product Description

Electric Blue features 14 brand new tracks, including two duets with Claudia Brucken (of Propaganda and Act) and Jake Shears (of Scissor Sisters), and encompasses a variety of musical genres. Electric Blue was co-written and recorded throughout 2004 and 2005 with Manhattan Clique (Philip Larsen & Chris Smith) who, as well as Erasure, have also worked with Moby, The B-52’s, Stereophonics and Goldfrapp in recent months.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Poptastic Treat, 13 Oct 2005
By Robert Thornsby (Fort Worth, Texas, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Andy Bell, one half of one of the most successful pop duos ever, Erasure, brings forth his first solo offering, and a rather excellent one it is to. It does obviously have some Erasure flavour running through it, but at the same time it has an very individual Andy Bell stamp on it. With are treated to Andy's great vocal range in tracks that have a much bouncier feel than what we heard on Erasure's last, and rather brilliant album, Nightbird. Stand outs for me are the top 40 smash "Crazy", the stomper "Shaking my Soul" and one of the best ballad synth tracks I've ever heard in "Fantasy". Downside is the Scissor Sisters collab. which really doesn't do anything for me at all. This is a delightful album and a refreshing change to all the guitar based sound the sames that are currently drowning the music scene. 4 on 5 as Alan Partridge may say.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, 19 Oct 2005
By A Customer
This is the first review I've ever written for a CD I've purchased. Normally, I just either can't be bothered or don't have the time. As a long time Erasure fan (in excess of 40 CDs of theirs), I was a little skeptical of this offering. Would it have the Vince sound? Who are Manhattan Clique? I mean, I liked some of their Erasure mixes, but could they pull of a production effort on an entire CD? Well, if you've ever found yourself foot-tapping to an Erasure tune, get this CD. There are some *outstanding* tracks here. And, do yourself a favour a get the Crazy CD single with the mixes. Well worth it. Excellent, Andy. Just excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 30 Oct 2005
By A Customer
I have been a fan of Erasure for years.
I was a bit sceptical about this CD but have to admit it is brilliant. Andy Bell's voice is very versatile and this CD is nothing like an Erasure CD and he still sounds excellent. I highly recommend this, I can't stop playing it. You get a real feel good factor from it, you can't be down hearted whilst listening to this. Even my birds sing like mad when it is on!
