Amazon.co.uk Review

Two years ago the Audio Bully’s delivered their visceral, zeitgeist-capturing debut album Ego Wars. This sophomore effort wisely avoids echoing the same nihilistic manifesto (see "We Don’t Care"), drawing instead on a broader palette of sounds and some genuinely effective attempts at songwriting. It wouldn’t be an Audio Bully’s album without a couple of obligatory floor-wreckers of course, which is what "Keep On Moving" and "Shot You Down" are there for. But the best cuts on Generation are not beefed-up house-rants, but the more introspective recordings like the gritty "Made Like That" (featuring Roots Manuva) and laid back songs such as "Get Myself On Track", "I'm in Love" and "Struck By Sound".

Lyrically and musically, Generation is more cerebral than their debut, providing unequivocal evidence that this talented duo are much more than simply a "Streets Pt 2". --Paul Sullivan

CD Description

'Generation' is the second album from West London duo AudioBullys and sees the boys continuing with their urban influenced dance sound. Mixing hip hop and dance with a huge arrayof sampled genres, the album tells tales of urban living while interspersed with upbeat dance tracks. The Nancy Sinatrasampling single 'Shot You Down' is also included.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amalgamation of every that has gone before and more, 22 Oct 2005
By Cookies (London, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
So, there really is nothing to describe this album, because from one song to the next its so different e.g 'Generation' being of a house style based track to 'I Won't let you down' being trance influenced and then there is the best track on the album 'BRING LIGHT', it uses loadsa samples. My friends and I are still fighting about just how many samples there are. I reckon about three. Bring Light is a funky mix of samples with rough vocals its a perfect combination. It makes me want to click my fingers and bop to the left and right. On the track 'Eq-ing'Audio Bullys totally flip the script , there is heavy bass and snare. Its rather similar to somthing that the prodigy would do on the their Music for the Jilted Generation album. The high pitched sound of drills half way through 'Eq-ing'are really un nerving but lead to a perfect drop. On the next track 'Made Like That' there is UK garage based style, it has MCing with lyrics which make sense, and are real and aren't something weird and made up just to appeal to a large music fan base. It makes the sounds of the alubm more gritty, more dark then something just 'urban'.
The tracks 'Get myself on Track','I'm in Love' is similar to music created by the Streets on his first album. The chorus's are as catchy as hell, with a use of strings in the background making the tracks sound even better. I'm not saying the tracks is a copy of the streets, its not, its different but if you a fan of the streets then the album will appeal to you aswell.
Because the album is soo varied you'd think that only half of it would appeal but I don't think thats true. If you like the standard house then the speed of the music will suit down to the ground, if you love to dance then you feet will not stop moving to this album. If you a fan of garage styles Kano and the Streets then the raw, rough lyrics of a couple of Londoners will fit you perfect.
My album gem's are: Rock Till I'm Rollin,If you Want My Love, Shot you Down, Bring Light, The World, Get Myself On Track

3.0 out of 5 stars So much talent going to waste!, 4 Jan 2007
By Sam Matthews (New Zealand) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The Audio Bullys are definitely one of my favourite groups because they just make music that sums up this lifestyle and make awesome original beats. On the flipside, they've gone and made an album that's filled with ridiculosuly repetitive stupid hooks. This means you can't really play the CD when you're around your friends that much because the album produces way too many "next track" moments. Another thing, when will UK rappers learn to stop singing the choruses? It sounds like s*%t 90% of the time! That goes for you too Mike Skinner, rapping and singing are two different talents!
I don't wanna be too negative because this is overall a pretty good album with fresh sounds, and the song "I'm in love" is a coming-down classic, but it's really frustrating that the Audio Bullys don't have a third ear to just say, "Hey mate, that hook's starting to sound stupid and annoying now, let's change it up a little..." Then these guys would have the talent to claim their place right at the top of the game! Buy it but don't expect everyone in the room to be into it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Uplifting!!!, 5 Jan 2006
By W. Morris (Bucks, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Having not heard the Audio Bullys until i sampled 'Shot You Down', i decided that i would buy their 'Generation' album and what a great decision it was.

I can't help but think of the 'Streets' when i listen to this album. It is a mix of dance with strong beats with a slight garage feel to some of the tracks.

The stand out tracks on this album are:

1 - Shot You Down
2 - Generation
3 - I Won't Let You Down
4 - Made Like That

All the other tracks are worth a listen and the Collaborations with Suggs & Roots Manuva are brilliant.

If you are like myself and a Fan of 'The Streets, but you also like upbeat Dance Tracks then you will love this album.

Worth every penney!
