Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Preview

In a nutshell:
If you’ve ever played a Tony Hawk game, your expectations of American Wasteland will have been well and accurately managed: you’re a skater, and you skate. New additions for this outing include the ability to switch to BMXs, an expansive (and load time-free) Los Angeles cityscape, new moves and improved “Freak Out” abilities that see your rider destroying their board post-wipeout in a series of increasingly comical exercises in deck destruction.

The lowdown:
Although you can now also ride a bike, the familiar and understandably unchanged control system is as tight and responsive as ever and with the additional freedom to roam, enormous combinations of tricks are slightly easier to achieve than before. Graphically this is very much business as usual, although the Xbox 360 remix naturally looks by far the sexiest.

Most exciting moment:
Finding rails, cables, benches and vehicles to grind the hell out of has never been easier or more satisfying, and combined with the new handstand tricks can produce some memorable combos.

Since you ask:
As well as original music by artists from Chemical Brothers to Sham 69, American Wasteland will also feature an unreleased Tony Hawk remix of Bloc Party’s “Like Eating Glass”.

The bottom line:
It’s Tony Hawk pumped up and ready for action.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, 31 Dec 2005
By C. Crocker "dcware2002" (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was expecting this be just another run of the mill skating game, but boy was I wrong. The ability to switch between Skateboard, BMX and on Foot is one the greatest ideas in sports gaming. The soundtrack is awesome, including some classic skate music along with some new, like Green Day - Holiday (which was a supprise).

Another great feature is the ability to go head to head on XBOX Live. With the huge unrestricted levels (not too dissimilar from GTA) along with the above great features, with one or two funny supprises, this has got to be the greatest skating game ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great skate game, 19 Feb 2006
This installment of the Tony Hawk series starts of a little slower then the others, in that you actually have to learn the tricks before you can do them by taking part in the missions. this is a good thing though as it gives more emphasis on your character being a "noob" on the skating circuit.

manuals, liptricks and slow motion specials are still here with the ability to make your own tricks thrown in as well. There are alot of pro skaters in the game but only really towards the end, there are even a few cameos from celebritys, including Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong. The level design is excellent with lots of place to explore, you can carry out the missions or do challenges to get cash, or even the sponsor challenges to earn more skill points.

The level of customization is good too, with clothing, tattoo, skate and salon shops throughout the game. Some of the missions are a bit silly but this is Tony Hawk's and you've got to expect some of that.

All in all, a great game that i would definitley reccomend to any fan of the series or genre

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Tony Hawk Game?, 6 Jan 2006
By A Customer
when first putting this in the 360 i was expecting just another carbon copy of THUG or THUG 2, The missions are slightly changed which is good sicne i really didnt like THUG2, Basically what makes this game is the graphics and the no load time, The graphics are amazing on a HDTV compared to THUG2 it quite a big leap. The missions are relativley easy 95 to do, i managed to do it in under 10 hours but only since i have played Tony hawks before and know the moves! The new moves take about 10mins to learn and you will need to master these to pass the missions,

Thankfully their is still manual, flatland and the special bar slow mo thing, i thought that there wasnt but you will need to learn the tricks as you go through the game which i quite enjoyed

The bmx part is completley different to the skating and i found it quite fun to do, their is not alot much better than doing a double tailwhip flair over a channel!]

So basically if your a tony hawks fan with a 360 thisll be impressive and one of the best tony hawks games ive played on and again its one of those games you can just turn on for an hour and just kick it to some music and try a few lines!
