Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
In a nutshell:
It’s Grand Theft Auto in the Wild West as you take on every varmint in the state, battle cattle rustlers, outlaws, evil business men and figure out the conspiracy behind who your real father was. Simply put, this is an ultra violent tale of the old frontier.

The lowdown:
Swap the cars for horses, San Andreas for the big country and a Uzi for a good old six shooter and suddenly GTA becomes GUN. It’s not quite that exact a copy though: the story missions are much more important here, with the side quests proving to be fairly short lived, and there's relatively little reward available for exploring the game world. The actual business of gun fighting and horse riding looks and feels great, with accurate, intuitive controls and surprisingly violent showdowns. Grand Theft Auto is a better game and Red Dead Revolver is a better Western, but this is still a decent effort at navigating a path between the two. Most exciting moment:
Failing to take care of business in a horseback gunfight, then using your dead mount for cover!

Since you ask:
Developers Neversoft are the same studio behind the Tony Hawk’s games – as you might have guessed from the familiar looking combo messages.

The bottom line:
Doesn’t quite reach its full potential but a fun cowboy simulator all the same.
Harrison Dent

Manufacturer's Description
When life robs Colton White of all that matters, the only thing left he can trust is his GUN. From award-winning developer, Neversoft, and accomplished screenwriter, Randall Jahnson (The Mask of Zorro, The Doors), GUN follows Colton on his quest for discovery as he seeks to exact vengeful justice on those who have wronged him. GUN is a realistic epic action/adventure that lets gamers experience the brutality of the lawless West.

Key features:

  • New and savage ways to punish: Stealthily sneak up and attack your enemies, use them as cover, stab, shoot, or scalp them. Blast away and watch the aftermath, shoot guns out of enemy hands, or destroy with dynamite.

  • Extensive variety of missions and game play: Wage war on horseback, commandeer trains, protect whores, collect bounties, play poker, hunt buffalo, and more. Multiple game play styles include: precision shooting, stealth tactics, and use of explosives. Embark on numerous side missions that allow you to master gun slinging and horse riding. Unlock secret weapons and upgrade your skills and abilities to improve your weapon and equipment performance.

  • Brutal realism: Act as a gunslinger protecting righteousness, or seek retribution as you face corrupt lawmen, warring tribes, cold-blooded outlaws, and ruthless renegades. Encounter legendary gunfighters such as JJ Webb. Employ a multitude of authentic weapons including: Six shooters, shotguns, Gatling guns, flaming arrows, hatchets, dynamite, and more.

  • Expansive interactive world: Play an extensive variety of exciting missions as you journey west across the new frontier. Ride on horseback through the scenic, yet dangerous Western terrain of canyons, mountains, plains, forests, gold mines and towns.

    4.0 out of 5 stars a fair game...worth the price, 13 Mar 2006
    By A Customer
GUN is a good game which as a good story. Although you dont have to follow it all the time, you can go around the map looking for side missions such as wanted posters and protecting towns well the sherif is out of town. I found it a little easy but i only had it set on normall if i would play it again i would set it to hard. There are many upgrades for items from various shops. There are many wepones inclueding the bow and arrow. There is a cool quick draw thing well everything goes in slow motion and you can take your emenys heads of one by one!! lol. All in all i think this game is worth the price and if you like western times and a good story line you should get this game!

    5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, 16 Nov 2005
I am a huge fan of the west and the traditional cowboys and Indians theme and GUN really captures all of this. I was worried about the third person perspective but it works very well and the combat system itself is so much fun. The fact you really can do anything you want in relation to the old west is brilliant, hunt, gamble, work for the law, go in search of gold and tonnes more with the transport system of riding on horse back being very realistic. The storyline itself is very interesting with coranadoes cross (indiana jones fans be proud) taking a front seat.

There is a great variation of authentic western weapons from six shooters to rifles along with a handy meelee option (knife or tomahawk) if enemies get too close, and whats better than scalping a particularly difficult foe after you've beaten him! The quickdraw mode works very well allowing you to slow time down time matrix style while in 1st person you take out as many bad guys as possible.

I have completed the game on the insane difficulty which was no easy feat, but it is realistic in the way that you really do need to tactically buy upgrades for your weapons and complete side missions to improve your skills to keep with the tempo of the game.

There are very little downsides but I felt that the map cold have been bigger as I became familiar with it very quickly but any bigger you have to ride all day on your horse do get anywhere which would bore some people although realistic. Sometimes the freedom of the game was restricted with the messages on screen teadiously pushing you to the next part of the story.

All round I thought this game was awesome and if you're a fan of the west and the authentic settings and weapons of the time along with a good storyline and freedom to explore this game has it all.

    5.0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece, 16 Nov 2005
This game is just breathtaking. The storyline flows through the game, as if you are watching an enjoyable movie. The sceneries are authentic, brilliantly done and just beautiful. The music fits the mood so well, drawing in you to the game. The characters look real and act real. This is a masterpiece.

The gameplay offers a few new tricks you can use. The ‘quickdraw’ feature is especially handy when you’re surrounded by a group of attackers, where you just shoot, turn, shoot next, turn and finish the very last of them. Makes you feel just like the best gunner in the west.

If not for my sluggish system, I would delve right into the game until it is done. Unfortunately slide show fighting is not the best way to enjoy this game; hence I will upgrade my PC just to play this. It is that good.
