5.0 out of 5 stars Take Me To Your Leader has liftoff, 15 Sep 2005
By A Customer
After a long wait, Hawkwind finally release their long awaited album. From the opening track - Spirit of the Age featuring Matthew Wright and Lene Lovich - to the sheer psychedelic weirdness of Letter to Robert featuring Arthur Brown, the concept of the 'digital' destroying the 'natural' is emphasised by some soon to be classic Hawkwind tracks (Angela Android, To Love A Machine and Digital Nation) interspersed with jazz fuelled space rock tracks such as Out here We Are and Sighs. A Must for any Hawkfan - great concept, great packaging (particularly if you get the special edition with bonus DVD) and a return to form by Captain Brock and crew.
Overall the album is a strange mixture of Space / Jazz / Dance Rock that blends superbly well and is a worthy addition to their vast back catalogue. Best tracks on album - To Love a Machine, Greenback Massacre, Angela Android and Digital Nation. To Love a Machine - very much classic Hawks. Greenback Massacre - blanga of the highest level. Angela Android - great quirky sound and good lyrics (live version on Spirit of the Age single is better though). Digital Nation - a modern day version of Damage of Life in my view. The DVD is a great bonus as well and worthy of watching. Worst Track - Letter to Robert - not that this isn't good - it is - but psychedelic vocal tracks just don't do it for me after a couple of listens. On the whole - reminiscent of classic 80's Hawkwind - fantastic:-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Taken to your leader, 12 Oct 2005
By Andrew C. Madden "Mad Andy" (London UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Yeah ok ok, its a been a while and Hawkfans are ecstatic that its finally seen the light of day, so much so that I get the feeling that the band could really have released anything to rave reviews - hence my cool but calm and realistic comment. It is good, a good mix of old and new which is fresh and contemporary. This is frequently what other reviewers pick up on. The dvd bonus is a treat for the same price - its already going for silly money on Ebay - so get yours before they're gone. BUT its not great. There I've said it. Its not going to be a classic album, its on par with (may be a little better than) Distant Horizons. Which is a good album, but not as good as Alien 4 or Space Ritual. I'm not going to bore you with individual song crits - just do yourself a favour and buy the album. For a band thats been around in one form or another for decades and decades they can still make music that grabs you, more so than the fashion bands of today (the test of time will tell!)
I've been taken to your leader, and I will be coming back for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars About bloody time, 20 Sep 2005
By Mr Terence J Preston (Deepest Berkshire) - See all my reviews
I first saw Hawkwind in 1973 when I was 15 in Oxford when they performed Space Ritual and I was there in Croydon this year.So am I qualified to give a review of the new album? too bloody right.I have been a bit fed up with all the live material of late so what joy to receive the new album.Firstly get the limited edition with the DVD as this actually contains a promo of the single together with reasonable interviews, although the girl interviewing is a bit hopeless, get a fan to ask the questions next time. Also a message to Dave Brock-stop hiding on stage behind your mums old bed cover. We want to see you and your guitar!.Thank god there isnt much of Arthur on the album, but it is worth the price to hear new material and to hear Brocks guitar, fantastic. For once, on the DVD you actually get to see him playing and enjoying it.This has made a 48 year old very happy, thankyou.
